I really don't know how the template language works internally in calibre. I don't know if there is an API exposing it to the user. But I don't think it would be a good idea anyway, because calibre is much faster. Processing the template when running the plugin would only slow it down.

The problem is that past years are not updated except when re-adding. Also, this is something very specific: you must want to change your genre column used to add the books, and you have a book being reread from that year. That's something most people will never do, and if someone does, it will be a one time thing.

There was no change to this recently. But first versions indeed asked for all the data to be filled before adding. Then, I changed it to accept Date/Page Count to be empty until the Reading progress reaches 100%, when it will prompt you to fill those fields.

I think I'm adding too many books to 'Want to read'. (at the moment, I see twelve)
In my not-a-hoarder defense, I can tell this plugin had me reflecting a lot on my reading habits and, as a consequence, reading more.

Then I thought, what if the plugin could prompt me to answer some questions before adding a title to 'Want to read' like:

- ARE YOU SURE
- DO YOU WANT TO PROCEED?
- REALLY?
- OK, now type a one-line descriptive note containing reasons for adding this particular title to your 'Want to read'

Here's something for you. Two notes:

1. You'll need the prompt for confirmation custom user module.
2. I set the single-field edit to use #subtitle. Change that to your own column. I'd suggest a long-text title-type column (so it won't appear in the tag browser).

I listed all the books that are currently on my Kobo - I honestly don't expect to get through them all this year (especially since I have multiple omnibuses). But it'll be fun to try.

So, you have better intentions than me, as I think I've got around 300 books in my Kobo that I've not read

If possible, it would be nice if 'edit reading goal' would jump to the currently-selected book (unless it's not on the list).

When I have time I'll check this and your other requests (auto-collapse and choose colors).

This should be optional. Personally, I prefer it starting at the top.

Hiya!

Ive been overhauling my Calibre the past few days and I'm getting an error when I try to do anything with the Reading Goal plugin

If I could get some assistance on what I am doing wrong, it would be much appreciated! I love this idea and got the Count Pages set up specifically to track with this

TIA

Check your date column. You probably have an invalid date in one of your books (like 1900 or something). If you have a date before the python epoch time (1970 if I'm not mistaken), you get this error.

FWIW, I remember this epoch time thing being discussed here:

But I think this is just an incorrect date (I hope), since the user probably does not have records going back to the 70's.

I do occasionally change the date of my unreads to 1970/01/01 in order to fix the weird sorting of books on my Kobo, but I clear it when I'm done. (Though sometimes I use 2000/01/01 instead.)
