I have to confess I don't remember the details to that extend. I soft of lost interest after going through the list of affected devices and mine was not included.

Well, I just tried. Downloading an already purchased book from my Kindle library via wifi still works on my Kindle 4, no Download & Transfer needed. Kindle Store doesn't work.
That said, there are a couple of old models with only 3G, no wifi, so they would need D&T for downloading any books, even those already purchased. |

Saga is an imprint of S&S. But it seems like maybe they aren't DRM-free anymore. At least a quick look at a few recent books from them at Kobo didn't turn up any. Tor still is though and all their book descriptions say DRM-free even at Amazon where it is only true if you get it in non-kfx.
My Kobo Touch syncs over wifi. The store doesn't work, but I always buy books via the website anyway. |

This is not true. My Kindle Keyboard (3rd gen Kindle from 2010) happily downloads books over either WiFi or 3g. I did so this morning. What I cant do is purchase books using it.

Of course, you need to be logged in to sync books from your account wirelessly. If you aren't logged in, does that Kindle still show as an option for "download & transfer"? And if so, do those books work on that un-logged-in Kindle if they have drm?
In other words, "download & transfer" might not do you any good on an unlogged-in Kindle no matter its age unless the book is drm-free (or drm removed). Last edited by lkmiller; 08-26-2024 at 08:20 AM. |
