Hello!
I updated my Samsung A7 tablet On Dec 28th. I had to reallow my computer to access the device, and I saw that Calibre then recognized it. But, ever since then it's taking increasingly longer to go through the "Getting List of Books on Device" - I have about 7,000+ - every time I connect the tablet to Calibre. First it was 7min 38s on Dec 29th, then it was 8min 11s the first time on Dec 30th (today), then I reattached a second time again it was up to 9min 27s, a 3rd test just now (Dec 30th) says 9min 23s. When I look at the status info, it looks like it's going through all my folders - I see the filenames of photos on my sd card. I thought I directed it to ONLY read my "Books" folder... Is there something I'm doing wrong? Previously, before the update to the tablet it would do a quick 35-50 second scan, read my books and I was good to go. Now it's just taking too long to connect. My only recourse would be to have the tablet ignored and just save the ebooks directly to the tablet side storage. My Calibre version is 5.29, which I know is old, but I don't update unless I have an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Last edited by FicDragon; 12-30-2022 at 12:46 PM. |

Edit the list of directories/folders Calibre scans in the settings when tablet connected so only the one with eBooks is scanned.
I do that when I get an Android device and SD card before anything else. |

Apparently my previous reply is awaiting moderation, lol!
Okay, I found that - thank you, THANK YOU so much for pointing it out, I COMPLETELY forgot to do that after the update! it went from several minutes down to 2min 6s, which is great! For anyone else who has this issue, as Quoth pointed out (seriously, THANK YOU!!), it's "right click on the device>Configure this Device>Changed Scanned folders". Then unselect everything and reselect ONLY the folder you want scanned and uncheck any subfolders you don't want included. I'm just so happy right now, thank you SO MUCH Quoth!! |

I'm not touching anything else, I don't go to any of those folders through my laptop or my tablet, so I'm in no danger. It was just so bleeping frustrating having to wait all that time for it to load each time I connected. I left myself a note in case I ever have to do this again.
Thank you again SO much!!! |

Update: I had to have Calibre ignore the tablet and send my files through drag and drop onto the side card.
At first it was fine, the initial scan to file list of files was around 2 minutes. Then, whenever I would first connect the tablet it would be 6+ minutes, then next time 2 minutes, then 4 1/2 minutes, etc. It was getting to the point where I had no idea how long it would take to communicate with the tablet and I can't interrupt the communication. I made sure it was just the "Books" folder was checked under folders to scan, but for some reason it kept scanning "Ringtones", then "discovering" books I had already on the card from before my tablet firmware update. I use Moon+Reader Pro, and it would scan the .Moonreader sub folder under "books". I unchecked that, it didn't make it better, rechecked it to allow scan, didn't make it better (the scan of .c2 took forever). I don't know what he issue is, it's definitely something that's my issue and not a calibre program problem, but right now I have NO idea how to fix it and no energy to deal with it. So drag and drop it it. |
