Another tie which I'm breaking with a vote for Alias Grace and I've altered the votes accordingly.

So it's Alias Grace. I voted for both options in the original poll but with a slight preference for this one, so I'm happy.

OK then--so now I get to worry that everyone will hate the book and it will be ALL MY FAULT. Eeek!
In other news, I just finished The House on the Strand, so I'm all ready for the discussion tomorrow. |

Phew. Now I feel free to say that I am very happy with the outcome. I really didn't like Picnic at Hanging Rock, and really didn't want to read it again.

I feel really bad that I've missed nominating and voting for my own theme. I'm happy with the final choice, though, and promise to read and report

I had also considered Gone Girl, but actually there is something about Flynn's books that I find vaguely unpleasant - perhaps that her characters have few if any redeeming qualities. I also love The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks, but that's a really polarising book. Some people (like myself, who has a personalised signed copy from the great man himself) love it, others really dislike it. |

I liked Gone Girl well enough, but I don't understand why it became a phenomenon. I preferred both Sharp Objects and Dark Places. |

I ran across a very favorable review from earlier this year in the New Yorker of the Amazon Prime miniseries of Picnic at Hanging Rock.
