What we really need is a forum section for eBooks. Not just any specific format. But one that is a general purpose form for all eBooks.

Honestly, given the choice between having this thread marooned here and having it be for Kindle books only and staying in the main Kindle forum, I would far prefer the latter.

Just since this was moved, someone posted a new thread about bad formatting in a Cory Doctorow book -- something that totally belongs in this thread, but it never will be because nobody would think to look here to complain about a formatting problem.

Mods, can it please go back? Please?

I really don't care where it is. I will move it to Kindle -> Content. Since you are the OP and want it moved back.

THere will be a redirect at this location for a week.

But it's still a jolly good idea; I think that if it doesn't fit into Reading Recommendations it's worth starting a special forum for it.

This thread no longer fits into the Kindle Content section as this post is adding in a non-Kindle compatible eBook.

Title: Children of Dune
Author: Frank Herbert
ISBN: 9781440630514
Format: ePub
Issue(s): No cover, Paragraph spaces and a really poor ToC
Steps Taken None

Issue(s): Large spaces between paragraphs; text repeated in first paragraph of ch. 17, ch. 20.
Steps Taken (if any): Several readers contacted Amazon and author via website. Amazon claims to be working with publisher (Penguin) to get spacing issue resolved (see discussion on item's page).
The Mobipocket edition has full line spaces between each paragraph. But no more than that. The MS Reader edition has 1/2 spaces (Well less then a full line) between each paragraph. As for the duplicated text, that's unique to the Kindle edition. Neither the Mobipocket or MS Reader have it.

I think this is a brilliant idea, but maybe needs re-thinking. Brilliant because a dedicated thread that describes formatting issues with specific books would provide a link to include with letters to publishers, booksellers, and authors.

Needs re-thinking, something along the lines of a data entry form with boxes to fill in (title, author, specific prob, steps taken, etc) so that everything is in a tidy list. Having a lot of commentary and discussion posts mixed in with the list of titles makes it messy. Maybe just add a comment block to the data entry screen.

Could someone much more tech-savy than I possibly do something like this? Would this be something we would want?

Another problem is that of finding a particular book and adding to its problems. For example, Jon has identified some problems with Butcher's book. Now, days later, someone else gets ready to either report the same problem, thus creating a duplicate entry, or an additional problem, which isn't linked with the originally reported problem.

I have no clue how to go about it, but there needs to be a way for merger of information so that there is only one entry for Butcher's book but the entry includes all of the comments.

Well, I know for a fact that if I try to register at websites and I've already been there but forgotten, it "dings" and says that my personal info is already there. Could this same feature clunk somebody if a duplicate title is entered? And maybe offer the opportunity to edit the original entry or add a comment?

The threads are searchable. So we can search the thread for a specific eBook before it's added. And then if we find it, read what's said and only add what's not there if need be. The moderators can then combine all the posts about a given eBook into one post.

So the Turn Coat posts could be made into one post (for example).

And we do need to have them thread moved out of Kindle Content and if need be, then a new forum section created. This thread is no longer just about Kindle content any longer.

Is that BBeB (LRF or LRX) with or without DRM?

Some threads could fit in multiple sections. Some don't. There is no perfect answer. Not everything in this world is black and white.

I dunno, I bought it from the Sony Connect store via their library software. The "info" button on my 505 says BBeb is all I know.
