Also trying to read text on glossy white paper with varius lighting conditions can be difficult.

Then there is the combination that is terrible in any medium even when new: slightly dark gray text on a slightly light gray background or vice versa. Well, I guess TTS would win unless it has markup specifying soft, slurred, rapid speech with an accent guaranteed to confuse anyone regardless of native language.

If you've forgotten your glasses, you can't adjust the font size on a paper book to compensate.

Funny you should mention that! I'm reading a paperbook where some pages are just like that! And with a tiny font... <sigh> It's a non-fiction book with lots of photos so paper is best for it. But I do skip some pages that I just don't want to make the effort.

I'd need a larger version of it to see it as I've forgotten my glasses.

Crunched up by the dog. Magpies don't actually much pinch shiny stuff. Maybe the odd juvenile rook might take something out of curiosity. Rooks are trickier, but magpies will take small birds.
The most belligerent bird might be the European Robin. It's song means "I'll kill you if you come closer" and most males will tear any realistic male robin model to pieces. They are not scared of humans either. A friend wondered how to dispose of his old settee. "Put it in the garage with your dog and in a few days you'll be able to put a few bits in the bin each week." It worked. Dog tended to get bored locked in garage all day when they were both out to work. He'd already had to stop storing cans of beer and spare light bulbs there. I didn't just make it up. In addition to picture books, magazines and magzine like web sites tend to do it. For the web sites I often have to highlight the text or use a text based browser to read it.

What if you've either forgotten your glasses, or they were "stolen" by a juvenile rook or potentially crunched to pieces by a sofa eating dog... and your magnifying glass/lens-contraption was whisked away by two angry robins using a strand of creeper held under their dorsal guiding feathers?
