Kindle does not show up under Device Managers.
Sure wish there was a fix for this. Today I will call Amazon and Windows support to see if they can help. |

If there are none and the Kindle is not shown then the computer is not detecting anything. That means either a bad USB cable (possibly a charging only cable), a faulty USB port on the PC or a faulty USB port on the Kindle. Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk |

Also possible a faulty/screwed-up usb driver from microsoft. Check if there is a 'later' driver for update.
I encountered same problem when trying to update the Mars via usb as it was the 1st gen & the only possible method with firmware. I did let it go for a while as I was still able to do stuff in wifi. Read about another person had similar problem on a newsgroup; decided to check for udates & received an usb update, coincidentally. The usb driver was an outsourced to another company by microsoft. A bad micro$oft may be "rare" but also worthwhile checking. |

Chip Don't look for the Kindle in the Device Manager. Look for a UNKNOWN or USB device with a Yellow mark. Delete that, then attach the Kindle again. A corrupt detection leaves the status as a Known Un-Known. |

You might also want to check into using Nirsoft's USBDeview utility to display or deleted attached and detached USB devices.

BUT your Calibre is really old, so even IF it was detected,Calibre might not recognize that it was there. Use the Official Calibre download, not the distro release BTW with Linux-Calibre , you can only have 1 MTP device attached at any time. |

I recently purchased a new fire tablet(10) and i cant seem to get this to show up on my calibre library! I followed the steps that the creator of calibre shared and nothing worked so here the debug output. Any kind of help would be appreciated!

Kindle Fire 9th Gen connection fix
This is probably old news to most, but I figured this out today after some trial and error. Thought it might help someone out in the future.
Quote:
It seems that the 9th Gen Kindle Fire OS always defaults "USB used for" to "Do Nothing" so you need to change the setting each time you connect the Kindle to your PC before launching Calibre. If you have already launched Calibre, simply close and relaunch after changing the "USB used for" setting. Last edited by austmeliamne; 01-01-2021 at 11:21 AM. |

I had the same problem, & solved it :
On your Kindle settings, go to : Connected Devices USB Use USB for - choose File Transfer (No data transfer is the default you must change from) Immediately my Kindle was recognized by Calibre. |
