I revisited this thread to say the exact same thing.

Maybe I am getting older, but now I am taking the advice I used to hear and indeed am giving it myself.

"Sleep on it." That is an amazing medicine for the body and the mind. Anger and anguish melt away (for the most part) and problems don't seem so insurmountable.

A real snafu or morass you got yourself into whether in life or in a story you are writing becomes more amendable for repair and resolution.

Couldn't agree more. This is a really good discussion. What works for me, and something I've learned the hard way, is after the story's edited and seen a few other eyes, to let the writing sit for a while, the longer, the better, then revisit, and then one's eyes catches all the little things that weren't seen before. After one more quick proofread, it's ready. I have a whole blog article on editing and when's enough:

One other thing that helps is to get away from writing for a period of time especially before sleep.

I recommend a movie. Almost any kind of movie of a kind that you normally like. Not reading, not a news analysis, not a football or basketball game, but a movie.
And one other thing. Never ever a baseball game! Too much time to think.
