Conspiracy theory: GoodEReader works for Kobo
Or at the very least is is highly biased towards Kobo. I can’t help but notice how GoodEReader tends to gush about Kobo and plug their services. I’ve read more than a few Kobo related blog posts on there that seem like a paid sales pitch than an objective review. There’s hardly any criticism of Kobo in the same vein as Amazon, B&N, and others.
For example, why do they keep hyping Kobo’s obscure indie book subscription service? They’ve posted about it multiple times this year already without mentioning any of its downsides including the fact that it has a much smaller selection than Amazon. Yet they made a hate post a few years ago trashing B&N’s self-publishing service and another instructing people how to cancel Kindle Unlimited. Anyone else get the feeling that Good EReader is shilling for Kobo? |

Looking back at 2020 I'd rather say they are plugging Pocketbook.

That's true. But it's worth mentioning that PocketBook has released several new models this year, including a color Eink reader. Kobo has released only one "new" model, and that was a hardware clone of the Tolino Page 2.

Meanwhile the rest of the sites are "highly biased" towards the Kindle.

I think the people at Goodereader are Canadian and are probably kind of loyal to Kobo. If that was the worst thing wrong with them I don't think it would be too bad.

I pretty much ignore Goodereader, even as a loyal Kobo user who switched from Kindles 2 years ago. BUT, if Goodereader ever starts plugging Kobo's CS, I'll be googling "ddos for hire"

It used to be that they were thought to be in the pocket of Kindle.
Recent praise for Kobo is due to Kobo stepping up their game with software improvements, hardware like the Forma and Libra and Kobo Plus. I'd almost think it is a sign that they are unbiased professionals. But then I remember what site we are talking about... |

Given their generally accepted incompetence at reviewing Kobo's hardware, I find it difficult to believe they're shilling for Kobo. If they are, they're spectacularly bad at it.

If you look at the videos comparing Kobo to Kindle, they make the Kobo look/seems awful. So I cannot see how they are biased towards Kobo. I would say they are biased toward Amazon if anything.

For every person that thinks that they are biased towards Kobo there is a person that thinks that they are biased towards Kindle. Hey guess what? They're not biased either way. They have huge problems with making up news stories for clicks but their reviews are quite neutral.

As Canadians, Kobo is the home team for them, and they may root for it a bit more, but that doesn't mean they're giving it biased coverage. The Kobo is certainly better than the Nook, and hardware-wise, it has its advantages over the Kindle. But GoodEreader also gives good coverage to Kindle and Android devices, and they even make their own Android devices. Despite making their own ereaders, they don't favor them over better Android devices. For example, I bought a Likebook Mars based on their coverage of it, which at the time described it as better than other Android ereaders. So, I don't think they are secretly in league with Kobo.
