iPad Storage

As everyone knows the iPad uses Solid State memory technology for its storage. These solid state drives have been around a few years. Does anyone know what the failure rate is on these? Is it comparable to regular memory or a hard drive?

You're best answer is to try and find what the NAND memory failure rate of iPhone/Touch devices. From what I've gathered, it's pretty low most likely on par with regular memory. Certainly much lower than even a SSD.

A NAND memory erase/write cycle is between 100.000 and 1.000.000 typical.

Do they use the Solid State hard drives in server Raid configurations?

There's great variability in the number of cycles solid state storage can stand. With current advances and updated drivers and firmware, cycles of upwards of 1,000,000 are common. Wear leveling technology is commonly used so the read/writes don't hit the same spot constantly.

Don't worry, generally the storage will likely outlive the device

Yes, you can get solid state drives for enterprise servers, but it's generally used where they need fast access such as databases. They're also frequently used as cache in front of lots of hard drives to speed up access and to allow for resiliancy in case of power issues, especially when the solid state has a battery backup.
