2. "Emma" (the deficiencies including a sad want of lace, IIRC)
10 is on the tip of my tongue! Precious use it is there, though. |

No - right sort of period but English. A hugely popular writer in his time but perhaps not read much now. I reread this book recently and thought what an unforgettable ending the book has, which made me think of putting this quiz together.
The other book is also English, more recent, a Booker Prize winner. |

Time to wrap this one up I think, especially as we are going away for a few days.
4. Random Harvest by James Hilton, author of (among others) Goodbye Mr Chips and Lost Horizon. 10. Possession by A S Byatt, winner of the 1990 Booker prize. So that makes a three-way tie by pdurrant, Fbone and poohbear. Over to whoever comes in first with the next quiz. |

I'll come in with a few random clues to some authors and illustrators mostly associated with children's books.
1. Screenwriter on The Wizard of Oz, and A Christmas Carol (aka Scrooge), also a successful author. Noel Langley (Fbone) 2. Illustrator of many children's books, including Stig of the Dump and two books by Noel Langley (The Land of Green Ginger and Desbarollda, The Waltzing Mouse). Also a successful author of his own children's books. 3. Notable illustrator of the works of two of the Inklings 4. Author with an alliterative name, wrote a "wizards in the real world" series long before J K Rowling. 5. Illustrator of many of Roald Dahls' books. Quentin Blake (Bilbo1967) Last edited by pdurrant; 02-23-2013 at 04:40 AM. |

If the screenwriter for that version of "A Christmas Carol" wasn't also a screenwriter on "The Wizard of Oz", then it's the wrong version.
