Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee

Now that Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee is over, I have to admit that I envy my British friends’ Royal Family. We Americans have nothing to compare, and I think to our loss.

I know our founders soundly rejected any connection with royalty; and considering the politics of the day, perhaps rightly so. But I think we lost something wonderful.

My congratulations go to all of the Brits here!

I think it has been said that the queen must believe that everywhere smells of fresh paint

There are a substantial number of us Brits (me included) who see the Royal Family as an anachronism in this day and age. Still, I enjoyed an extra day off work

I live in a city named after one of the royals. We got a pretty spiffy fountain one year.

It's part of our history and I like the fact that we worked out a deal instead of going to war, but it costs a lot of tax dollars every time one of them stops by.

We have that too, although maybe not to that scale, but they are trying.
