Nook battery life
I have my nook rooted with the 1.5 softroot from nookdevs that I installed last week. Today when I got it out to use it after 4 days of it sitting in my bag the thing was completely and totally dead. I had to pull the battery and plug it in just to get it to startup.
When I was on the 1.4 softroot I could go almost 2 weeks on standby. I thought this was supposed to have even better battery life? Anybody have any idea as to what is going on? Thanks |

Some of the apps from the 1.4 softroot were notorious battery killers. What apps do you have installed?

I dont remember what I had in 1.4 I am pretty sure I just had the my library, trook, web and wifi locker. but I did a wipe down to the 1.0 then up to 1.5 i think when I did it.
Right now with the 1.5 I have my library, trook, web, nookmarket, nooklets and the wifi locker thing. Other than the stock apps of course. |

When the battery showed 60% I turned the Nook completely off one night and when I turned it on the next morning, the critical battery warning came on and I had to charge the battery. Is there a particular app I should remove to see if that solves the problem? How can it drain the battery with the Nook turned off? Before rooting I could go several days with some wifi usage before the battery needed charged. |

I am also having this problem. A few times while using the (stock) browser it suddenly quit, went to the home screen, and then the little popup asking which launcher you'd like to make your default came up.

Oh wow, I am having the opposite result. I have the first 1.5 root though, 2.5.0. I only have My Library, Trook, and Web Browser running.

With 2.4.1, Locker caused the drain, just having the app available. When I removed it entirely, problem went away. Not an issue in 2.5.1.
I am not competent to follow most of this, but here, they seem to address the battery drain problem with Locker. I get the feeling somewhere in there as well is a solution for the ABD USB bug. Last edited by chas0039; 12-09-2010 at 08:27 PM. |

My batter went from draining fairly quickly to lasting a really long time. But like the above poster I have the first 1.5 root though, I don't have the 2.5.1 or anything.

Had something similar happen... I was stupid and didn't lock the wifi on my rooted 2.4.1 Nook, and B&N forced the update. 1.5.0 was an instant battery drain to me, so much so that I had to go back to the original software. I just got back around to rooting it, and went back to 2.4.1. I probably should switch to 2.5.1, but I'm afraid of the battery drain again.
Speaking of, when is NookDevs going to update the site regarding the more recent updates? |

Method to lengthen battery life.

..I sometimes find I need to powercycle my nook after side loading books to get them to show up in nookdev library. The powercycle is a reboot and turns adb on unless you have applied Naerymdan's idea. |

Avoid undesired Updates
Quote:
adb mv /system/app/FirmwareUpdateService.apk /system/app/FirmwareUpdateService.backup This disables the Update apk by changing its name to .backup. To enable again for a desired update, change it back to .apk Those two lines should be one. |

Is there a safe way to go back to stock 1.4.3 from rooted 1.5? Or, is it possible to softroot to 2.5.1 (http://www.perfinion.com:81/nookdevs...date-2.5.1.dat) with the old method (save it to external sd, call it bravo_update.dat, etc.) in the new hardware? I really don't know who am I: rooted 1.5, 2.5.0, 2.5.1..? |

My experience with rooting was with 1.4. Rooted, the battery drained very quickly. I ended up going back to stock 1.4, and since then, stock 1.5.
Until it's clear that one can root without considerably degrading battery life, I'll stick with stock, especially now that we have shelves. |
