The problem with this device is that it only handles PDF. That means it's very limited.

pricing is set at $700. that's way lower than at the initial release of the DPT-S1 (at $1100). with a flush screen, wireless printing directly to device, higher resolution, almost 3 times the storage capacity, and a more powerful processor, it might well be a worthwhile upgrade, especially if i'm able to sell my DPT-S1 to supplement the purchase of this one.

If the CA$ to US$ spread was a little closer this would tempt me. It may only do PDF, but depending on your use case that might well justify having it anyway.

I'd much rather have to deal with converting every reading material to PDF once than to constantly having to deal with an unoptimized E Ink UI. Also, I don't understand what other formats you'd want. Do you want to draw on an epub file? Stripping away one of the devices core functionalities just so it can support more formats would be nonsense in my opinion.

This is really interesting to me. I keep almost everything in Markdown and it would be pretty easy to create PDFs that look good on the device.

The Onyx Boox Max carta is 13.3" and it support other formats besides PDF. Tht means you could read ePub if you wanted without having to convert.

Yet the Onyx Max Carta doesnt have the same features the RP-1 has.
The RP-1 is intended as a paper replacement for people with jobs where they use a lot of paper. In those environments, PDF and MS Office files are the name of the game. Why compromise on the software to support e-books when it is not intended as an e-reader? |

Seems like the Japanese version will be white and the US version black. Did not think they would release it so soon in other countries, will there also be a European model?

For me, Onyx will only have a chance if their next device can be used as a monitor. This device is perfect for academic books and it will be its main pourpose for many people. Am I wrong?
