That was the only one I saw on sale right now, and shop.pocketbookreader.com also cut their price down to $125. There also looks to be something called an A10 that is new but not yet for sale.

Lots of stuff "Out of sale" at that site at the moment.

Thanks for the heads-up!

No problem. I've had one since Xmas last yr and love it.
Some say it's slow, but I've found that without any add ons it's pritty good.
I have launcher pro + and a bunch of other stuff on it. The thing that really slows it down is virus/malware detection programs.
With a two yr warranty and metal frame it just can't be beat for the price.

I took advantage of the sale price, and my new 701 just got delivered this morning. Thanks for pointing out the sale. Now I have to decide whether someone gets it for Christmas or whether I need a backup 701.

Mine arrived with the 2.1.1 firmware: Eclair (W701.2.1.1.20110715_130755).

no problem! If you do give it as a present you might want to back up to 2.06

I'm starting to think about maybe getting some WiFi here and using the new device for access to Android Market (or whatever it's called), assuming I can get that working with 2.1.1 firmware.

Taking it back to 2.0.6 might be best if it goes to someone that just wants to use it. For now I want to see how things work, especially 'net connectivity-wise.

That's where the rub comes in. Even choosing factory reset after loading 2.2.1, the wifi and internet and slow...........and I even experianced getting kicked of the net many times. reverted to 2.01 and all problems went away.
You can't get market unless you root your device. I haven't bothered because you can get tons of apps from amazon and other free site downloads.

Thanks for the info, musicman. I started to do the Kindle app install at one time there was some issue I had to resolve first. Might have been wifi access. I also recall reading about a technique that used the developer kit on a pc to download things that you could then shuffle over to the 701. Lots of things to explore, will report results as they slowly roll in.

yes, you could download from kindle by getting the kindle for pc program off amazons site.
I have NOT purchased more than 3 books since I got it.
Go to Smashwords click on free books, highest rated and wade through. These you would download as epubs into a "new ebooks" folder on your pc then just connect your iq to the computer and put them on the iq.
If you like sci fi I would highly rec. The unearthing
