HP tablet ...

They had a page to sign up for the low price when they got more stock a week ago, but took it down.

Last night on the news they said HP was so impressed with the volume of sales at the reduced price that they were manufacturing one more round of the touchpad.

This would indicate they are breaking even or making a profit at the reduced price.

Be interesting to see if they have a new round.

Holy Toledo! Imagine what they would have made if it had sold well at the original price!

I think you will find that all they are doing is assembling a number units from the parts they have already of have contracted to purchase. In both cases it is cheaper in the long run to assemble them and sell them at a loss because of long term storage costs.

I read somewhere ( was it Ars Technica or LifeHacker ?) that the 99$ price was made to match the amount HP owed to its manufacturer if he broke the contract for making and assembling the tablets.

The sale and all the media buzz it made was also a gigantic publicity for HP that would have cost a lot more too;

That's why they might make another round, even if the component costs is around 300$, the 99$ sale is hceaper than a advertisement campaign!
