Not many people will read for 10 hours solid. Certainly if travelling or camping a power bank is better than the power cover which is expensive and reviews suggest it doesn't work well. And simply a larger screen uses x4 power or more for twice diagonal at same aspect ratio. ![]() |

Personally, the less often I have to plug something in, the better. For most of my vacations, I wouldn't need a power bank to charge my readers.

True and my TCL nxtpaper phone & tablets have better run time than a Sage with the light on low.

I know, that's why if I finally decide on Kobo, then I'll just wait for their next B&W 7" model.

![]() If not, then there's always Kobo. And I guess their new models will be only better. ------ When it comes to batteries - my current paperwhite 4 is fine for around 35 hours of reading. IMO it's quite impressive, since it's 6 (?) years old already. However I use it w/o wifi, font size 1, bold 3, and usually quite low lightning. Of course when reading manga, battery drains much faster. So would be nice to expect at least same battery consumption from my new device, or even better. But what I must admit, charging is kind of slow (no usb c). Its around 3h |

I didn't "need" one, but I wanted an inexpensive touch model to try since I've only owned physical page turn button models so far. (I currently use a K4B and an Oasis.) |

Woot only ships in the US, not internationally.

I actually own a Paperwhite 12th gen. Sideloading with Calibre works fine. The book covers appear in the library and as screensavers. I use kfx. I have hundreds of ebooks that I sideload with zero issues whatsoever. If you have to convert them in Calibre, when you're at it select the personal document setting. It will help you avoid a known bug and also make it easy to filter sideloaded vs kindle ebooks if you ever wish to. |

Perhaps you should read @haydnfan's message? Pay special attention to the line that read:

I made some research and yes, It looks like with 12th gen PPW it's possible to make it working. By setting [pdoc] instead of [ebok] etc, etc.
However after all, since new features of PPW6 wasn't that important for me, I finally decided to buy PPW5 ![]() In my specific case it will be just more convenient, because now I still can use AZW3 (for my native language ebooks which KFX doesnt support). And add hyphens to them etc, etc. And use KFX only for english books. Also I don't have to worry that something wont work suddenly. I just do everything as always. For example I can resize manga cover (made with KCC), by using only resize cover plugin. With one click. And Kindles shows it in proper size, even if its not cover embed into file. My PPW5 came yesterday btw. I was little worried about its battery, since this Kindle probably spent around 2 years in shop. But it came with 50-60% ![]() I was also wondering about bigger screen in the past (for reading manga), but now I know that 7" is max for me. 6"8 of PPW5 is already big enough for me and bigger device would be inconvenient to use in my case. I'll follow which way Amazon goes in the future, if they fix their problems with sideloading and make it better, or even worse. So when it will be time to change to new device I'll decide if I stay with Kindle or change to Kobo or something else. However it's a matter of the future, since I expect that PPW5 should serve me for many years from now. Thanks everyone for participating in this topic! |

It's actually better that /system is hidden, calibre doesn't have to collect its humungous directory contents, doesn't create its cover thumbnail recovery folder, and gets to 'ready' much more quickly (e.g. Scribe 2022 vs Colorsoft). Last edited by tomsem; 02-17-2025 at 01:56 AM. |
