Philippians: The Fellowship of the Gospel, by Kent R. Hughes, is currently free. I wouldn't be slow to get this one, if you are interested, as The Spirit of Revival was only free for a day from this publisher.

Book Description
The four chapters of Philippians contain some of the most-quoted and beloved passages in Scripture: -For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain,- -Rejoice in the Lord always,- -Do not be anxious about anything,- -I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.- Yet in our familiarity with the Apostle Paul-s words to his favorite church, we must be careful not to miss the deeper themes, says commentator R. Kent Hughes. Themes such as the robust fellowship and unity that Paul shared with the Christians at Philippi based on their mutual commitment to the gospel. Theirs was a partnership we rarely see today-between people who were bound together in the great cause of unfurling the gospel flag in cities, countries, and other cultures-undergirded by Paul-s central call to let their -manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ.- It was a joyous cause, a unity, a manner of life that should be ours as well. The characteristics of such true Christian conduct and spirit are detailed throughout this epistle and this commentary, with every aspect ultimately centering in Christ. Hughes-s faithful exposition and application will reveal how much Philippians is about Christ and about people in Christ Jesus, as well as about people who are in the joyful fellowship of the gospel together because they are in Christ.

The Wallflower: A Hunting Love story, by Dana Marie Bell, is the first book in her Halle Puma series. It's a couple of days late, but it's this week's selection from Samhain Publishing, so be sure to check out the content warning.

Is Emma ready for a bite? A Hunting Love story, Halle Puma Series Book 1. Emma Carter has been in love with Max Cannon since high school, but he barely knew she existed. Now she runs her own unique curio shop, and she's finally come out her shell and into her own.

When Max returns to his small home town to take up his duties as the Halle Pride's Alpha, he finds that shy little Emma has grown up. That small spark of something he'd always felt around the teenager has blossomed into something more-his mate!

Taking her -out for a bite- ensures that the luscious Emma will be permanently his.

But Max's ex has plans of her own. Plans that don't include Emma being around to interfere. To keep her Alpha, Emma must prove to the Pride that she has what it takes to be Max's mate.

Warning: This title contains explicit sex, graphic language, loads of giggles and a hot, blond Alpha male.

Grace Notes -- December Free Preview, by Philip Yancey, from the description, is a full month of readings from the book Grace Notes ($9.99).

Free Preview Description
31 readings for the month of December

Full Book Description
366 daily readings from Yancey's honest, vibrant, and down-to-earth writings. In the tradition of the collected readings of Frederick Buechner, C. S. Lewis, and Eugene Peterson, Grace Notes presents the best of Yancey's writings about his understanding of God, the world, and faith. Readers will embark on an adventure to rediscover God through the wonders of nature, music, and romantic love. And they'll explore such subjects as understanding grace, living in God's love, understanding Jesus, renewing the practice of prayer, and finding God in unexpected places. Yancey's honesty especially appeals to doubters, sufferers, the disillusioned, and those seeking a break-the-mold relationship with God. Grace Notes is destined to be a perennial classic and a favorite gift for all occasions.

I'm going to leave this one off the list, because it is only a portion of the book. It's the same reason Patterson's Witch & Wizard isn't on this list. BTW, Patterson did a bait and switch and now the book is 1.5 stars with 50+ reviews. That was really dumb of him (or his publisher).

However, Grace Notes -- December Free Preview is still in the thread here, so that anyone reading the thread can find it and download it if they like.

The Patterson thing prompted me to write my first review for Amazon, so I'm one of those 50+. That kind of conduct should never be rewarded!

I didn't realize it was only part of the book. Still, I'm glad it was mentioned here, because it's the sort of book, that part of is still worthwhile. I don't feel I have to buy the rest, just to enjoy this part.

I agree -- I don't normally like book parts.

Not a problem to leave it off (Sporadic ditched the intro & chapter 1 business samples a while back). I wasn't going to even post it, but it is an entire month of the book (rather than just an intro) and for December, so it wouldn't be of much interest to most until next year, unless they started right away.

Patterson's deception is another thing entirely - this one (and the business samples, for the most part) at least clearly tells you it is only a sample/preview of the book.

Two new free books tonight:

Vanish, by Tom Pawlik

Book Description
Three strangers each encounter the same mysterious storm and awake the next day to find that everyone else has vanished. There's Conner Hayden, a successful but unscrupulous trial lawyer who has forsaken his family for his career; Helen Krause, a middle-aged model struggling to come to grips with her fading beauty; and Mitch Kent, an enterprising young mechanic unable to escape a past that still haunts him. Afraid and desperate for answers, their paths eventually cross and they discover they are being watched. Elusive and obscured in shadows, the "observers" are apparently forcing them to relive vivid hallucinations of events from their past. They discover a mute homeless boy in tattered clothing and believe he may hold the key to the mystery, but the "observers" soon become aggressive and the four are forced to flee. When the boy disappears, the four decide to head from Chicago to Washington, D.C., in search of answers...and more survivors. Winner of the 2006 operation first novel contest, Vanish is a nonstop suspense thriller in the vein of Ted Dekker.

Monday Night Jihad, by Jason Elam & Steve Yohn

Book Description
After a tour of duty in Afghanistan, Riley Covington is living his dream as a professional linebacker when he comes face-to-face with a radical terrorist group on his own home turf. Drawn into the nightmare around him, Riley returns to his former life as a member of a special ops team that crosses oceans in an attempt to stop the escalating attacks. But time is running out, and it soon becomes apparent that the terrorists are on the verge of achieving their goal: to strike at the very heart of America.

Dang! I bought that one in paper recently. I swear, all the e-book publishers must be keeping track because shortly after I buy a book, a free copy of it becomes available.

Anyway, thanks for this thread.
