I think there is no need to get worked up --- the words "something killer" are just an attempt to grab some attention. Some silly journalist started that game a few years ago.

Funny how when the iPad came out, so many knocked it as an expensive toy only apple fanbois could be suckered into buying. Now every company is expected to sucker Joe Laptop into getting one.

It's not going to be a single device that will "kill" the iPad. But the combined success of all of them may relegate it to a niche albeit profitable product, like Macs. For apple to continue to succeed, they'll will need to come up with new product lines that they initially dominate. They're a high wire act. I'm glad there"s an apple, but think I'd rather own microsoft stock; they can auto cruise on windows and office for, oh, another 25 years.

microsoft is a joke, yes i have an xbox and windows pc, but they cant suport anything, my wife has had 3 windows smart phones over the last 5 years every single one of them sucked, she tried a PDA with the microsoft CE in medical school didnt work well the palm pilot way better. we didnt like apple so we tried the microsoft Zune, well 1 week later microsoft put out a new OS update and new Zune and bricked ours, it was 4 months later that most 1st generation zune users could unbrick thier devices they were literally forced to buy a new zoon to use thier service again. the xboxlive
is one of the most clumsiest interfaces ive ever seen except for the windows gaming live, wich is a very poor version of other game on demand places like STEAM.

microsoft doesnt inovate they immitate and poorly at that.

you can watch videos of steve balmer saying that nobody would want an ipod/mp3 player its too niche, a couple years later he derisivly said nobody would want a smart phone/iphone because pda's worked fine , then again he publicly says ereaders are niche and nobody wants them, then not to many months before the ipad came out he again said oh nobody would want it because its not a true computer.

almost every single time that steve balmer opens his mouth he is condescending and wrong. what keeps microsoft alive is the stranglehold that windows has on the pc market thanks to bill gates not steve balmer.

The ecosystem is there, for now ill play my music on my ipod, my wife will use her iphone for work/phone/apps and ill use my beloved kindle to read

Sweetpea, you're wrong. When the new Mustang with the 5.0 'Coyote' motor came out there was much throwing of poo and discussion of it as a Camaro killer. And that's aside from how the pony car (Mustang) did indeed kill off the F-body generation of Camaro/Firebird (only to be resurrected later as a Holden model).

Maybe you're not a 'car guy'. I hang out on several car enthusiast forums as a past owner and racer of different machines. That same 'this will kill that' discussion goes on for many levels of machine. For example the Porsche GT2 versus Corvette ZR1. Or the Nissan GT-R versus the Corvette Z06. Or the Ford Mustang Boss edition versus the BMW M3. Or even, lol, the Honda Fit versus Mazda 3.

Microsoft has stumbled badly in mobile, sure..but I wouldn't dismiss them as a joke yet.
They still have incredible resources-I remember reading they lost four billion dollars on the first Xbox console...how many companies would even be around after something like that, much less be able to start over with a new product til they got it right?

Back on topic-I think Amazon is incredibly well positioned to succeed in this space.

dont get me wrong i dont like steve jobs either, hence the reason why we had owned 3 windows smart phones, a zune mp3 player and a windows mobile PDA. only to go to kindle for reading, apple for ipod, and apple for iphone. not because we love apple. you know the main reason why we replaced all those windows devices with apple/pal/and kindle devices... because they just plain worked. microsoft has had major dificulties in making a mobile device that WORKS.

ill be honest if someone makes a mobile phone os that actually works and isnt constantly buggy (read android) we will go to it instead of apple.. curently in the android phone market there is 5 versions of android OS out there and nobody really wants to develope for them because each device has a different OS. heck samsung alone uses 4 different android os's for its various phones/tablets!

dont take this as glowing worship of apple

have a great day everyone!
