Honey I shrank the book !
Somehow i messed up a sigil edit ,and an entire book, as rendered within moon reader was so shrunk that an entire chapter fitted into one page. Really really miniscule text for everything, including the chapter titles.
I am curious as to what fat finger move caused this. It rendered ok in ade, and in book view, and the original epub was ok in both ade and moon reader. I somehow fixed it by repeating a modify epub in calibre so I do longer have the damaged version for a post mortem. But can anyone suggest what can cause the whole book to shrink. I wonder if moon treats a value of 1, no unit given, as 1 pixel. But all styles seemed equally affected so maybe some other glitch. All I know, and why I post here, is that I somehow did the damage with the Sigil editor. I just like to know how I managed that Last edited by stumped; 01-01-2018 at 03:13 AM. |

One of the few things I can imagine, is that you somehow changed your stylesheet.

but i checked these obvious suspects and they looked ok each chapter begins with a body and then a div around everything... e.g. <body id="x9780062368720-2" class="calibre"> <div class="calibre1"> and calibre1 was just display: block; maybe something else in the sheet invalidated them somehow or maybe moon did not like the absence of a font size in the calibre1 div Last edited by stumped; 01-01-2018 at 03:15 AM. |

i had used my usual workflow-
1)epub to epub in calibre to apply my standard preferences ( like strip out font families... set widows & orphans.. via extra CSS) , and to create an original_epub backup in case of disaster at step 2 2) a manual edit in sigil to fine tune it e.g. remove unwanted front and back of book stuff, for simple personal reading, remove dropcaps... - that's is where it somehow went miniscule ok - it is just possible that step 1 did the damage ( as the "shrinkage" only showed up when rendered in moon+ - it looked fine in Sigil book view throughout ) but it's never gone wrong like that for me before the question is probably better asked in reverse, if you wanted to shrink ALL of an epub to postage stamp size, when tweaks would you apply ? Post the settings you use in the calibre Modify plugin.
I use a similar process as yourself, never had this problem, but I don't use Moon reader, currently using EBookDroid. BR |

easy as you say but slow as I cannot test on PC because it looks ok in sigl/ade: I have to get the book onto the tablet ( via calibre & CC ) to see how it looks in moon as for the earlier modify epub question: i have it coonfigured to remove spans, remove any adobe stuff , update metadata, fix up TOC, update cover. mainly i use it for auto-fixing the TOC if I have removed any unwanted pages like "also by" or "sneak previews " starting over would have been the next step ( having checked that original_epub was OK) had the issue not mysteriously gone away again |

Why are you converting ePub > ePub when you can just make a copy of the original ePub and edit that?

already explained. the initial epub to epub automates some routine things that i want done to publishers layout in every book, and creates an original_epub backup, which is useful in cases like this !

I've seen p tags styled with .758em, 18pt , giant line-space (not 1.2). Calibre conversions go for results (scale), not the cleanest of code. This is why a lot of us prefer edits vs same fmt Conversions. Why the push to fully automate, when you can't read more than 1 book at a time |

I say go for editing. Converting is not a good idea unless you have to and in this case, you don't have to. |

so in calibre conversions my extra css is body {adobe-hyphenate: none;} body {text-align: justify;} body {orphans: 1; widows: 1} once all that is done for me by a calibre convert , I move on to any book by book tweaks ... knowing also that I how have an original_epub backup just personal preferences also, because I am used to it, I can find my way around a a calibre-ised stylesheet faster than some over complicated publisher ones ! |
