Dear Mobile Readers,
Those of you who own an Oasis (9th or 10th generation): are you thinking about upgrading to one of these new Kindles? If so, which one? Thank you. Best regards. |

Not me. For two reasons.
* Page turn buttons are a must have feature for me * Having very recently left the Amazon ecosystem, I am much happier for it. |

Not for me either. I need page turn buttons and my Oasis still has the Download and Transfer feature available in my content library.

I did this upgrade and am much enjoying my new Parperwhait 12 signature. The screens are the same size, but the overall unit is smaller and lighter. It is also noticeably faster (for both page turns and scrolling through the menus/library. While I do wish it had page turn buttons and autorotate, I do not find their absence a major problem. I love the lighter weight and the way it fits in my hand. In fact, I like the feel so much that I have decided to get a sleeve instead of a traditional case and just read it sans cover.

I upgraded from my 10th gen Oasis to two Kobo models 3 years ago. No desire to go back to a Kindle, and page turn buttons are a must-have for me.

As a bit of a "poor" Kindle collector (sort of), I'll almost certainly buy this fancy new Paperwhite Signature, but I'm worried it'll end up in a drawer somewhere while I'm still using the Oasis...
Speaking of texture, I really like the aluminum finish on the Oasis, especially since it won't get sticky in the future. |

No ereader of mine has ever gotten sticky, but again, I guess it depends on the climate, at least in part. |

Oasis is 7'', right? Then my advice would be to keep your Oasis and either get a new basic 6'' Kindle, or Scribe, if you really wish to stay in the same ecosystem. Options are everything. Sometimes I like to read on a light and small device, sometime on a larger one.

I've got an Oasis 2 that runs KOReader as my primary reader. I also have a Scribe as my "current" Kindle device. I really like the metal cases of these and do appreciate the buttons on the Oasis, even though I don't feel I must always have them. The new Paperwhites don't appeal to me, though. Not enough of an upgrade, and IMO a downgrade in a few ways. I could be tempted by a new basic Kindle as an on-the-go device if I didn't have my Glo HD or PRS-350 as my smaller and cheaper devices that I'd be less sorry to lose or break out and about.

As for having a 6'' device, I think my current Kindle 11th do the trick, but I don't use it too much. My main device is still the Oasis 10th. In short, I know I don't need this new Paperwhite Signature, but the temptation to buy it is stronger than me. I think I need to find a therapist... |

If you don't use your 11th gen PW, what's the point of getting the 12th gen that's almost identical? I mean, I understand the temptation of buying a device I don't actually need (I've done it often enough), but only if I expect to use it to some extent, at least. To spend money on something I already know will be gathering dust in a drawer, nope.
To satisfy my gadget lust, I'd buy a device of another brand, to try something new. Much more exciting than the same old Kindle in regard to both the hardware and the software. Last edited by Sirtel; 11-05-2024 at 10:43 AM. |

There's been reported quality issues they're working on with the new gen, colorsoft and some of the paperwhites, so I'd wait to upgrade to either right now if your devices now work fine
As for me, I'm keeping my Oasis 9 until it dies, it's a great device to me. I have a Paperwhite 5 as well and Paperwhite 3, all going strong, and I didn't see a reason to change to the new paperwhite or basic |

I would keep my Oasis: I just don't like the size and the shape of the Paperwhite. The Oasis and the basic are much more comfortable to hold IMO. That's one of the reasons why I'm returning my Kindle Colorsoft (same size and design as the Paperwhite.
I think I'm going to buy a Koblo Libra Colour to satisfy my gadget lust ![]() EDIT: I'm NOT returning the Kindle Colorsoft after all but I still love my Oasis and Im definitely keeping it (and when it stops working I'll keep it anyway as a souvenir) Last edited by FrenchBookworm; 11-10-2024 at 11:20 AM. I would not get a 2024 Kindle. That are a downgrade and not an upgrade. There are a number of issues with them and you lose Download & Transfer via USB. So removing DRM may no longer work for you if you do not have an older Kindle registered to your account.
