Hi Dos1,
I wanted to use your event handler on my paperwhite2 to run my own sort of scrolling screen savers. So I was going to put a quick wrapper script in boot to remove any .lock file. Then in the suspend folder I would put a shell script wrapper to just run my python script in the background unless it sees the .lock file (which it would then "touch" to avoid running twice). But on my paperwhite2, your file doesn't appear to allow me to install. I've installed several things (USBNet, Linkss, Python, JB) so I know that's working. The file name I have from your zip is: update_eventHandler_0.2_kindle5_install.bin Any ideas? Also, do you think my idea to run a looping python script in the background will be fine? I can't see why it would do any harm, since I could always ssh in and kill it if I needed to. |

As a general rule, you only have 4 to 8 hours of battery capacity. If you normally keep your Kindle on external power, not a problem. A better plan is to have either manually triggered (say, a KUAL button) or an event driven (say, "going to screensaver") script. Those should let the processor shut down when it normally does (about 96% of the time, it is stopped - that is where the "months" between recharges comes from - it isn't "on"). |

Not written for the K3.
The event handler depends on the "upstart" task management system and the K3 does not use the "upstart" task manager. An "even hook" such as this could be written for the K3, but it would be a complete re-write of this code. |

Folks , I would like to add following command to the Kindle DX boot startup process
change the date by command 'date 111120422024' It should set the date from default 1970. What would be the best way to do it on Kindle DX? What would such a script look like Last edited by vendo232; 02-04-2025 at 12:13 AM. |
