Convert ePub manga into AZW3?
I am trying to convert some manga volumes I have in ePUB format into something that can be uploaded to my Kindle (so presumably Azw3). I already have the manga in epub format from the Humble Bundle I bought it in. I tried converting it to azw3 via Calibre and then upload it to my Kindle Paperwhite via USB cable. However when I try to open it on the kindle, it says the file cannot be read.
Are there settings I need to select in order to properly convert ePUB to AZW3 for a manga volume? I don’t think KCC is relevant here, as it seems to be converting into ePUB rather than from ePUB to AZW3, though I might be wrong there. A light novel I tried converting at the same time seems to have uploaded fine to my Kindle. |

Use Send To Kindle. It should convert to AZW3 (which you can import to calibre). If you want facing pages it needs to be KFX, side-loaded. You need to extract the images (e.g. with calibre book editor) then feed those to Kindle Create, generate a KPF, then convert to KFX using KFX Output plugin CLI. You can also add guided view or virtual panels, and Table of Contents with KC, and preview to verify it looks the way you want it. Last edited by tomsem; 12-21-2024 at 12:48 AM. |

Comics in epub may be a bit tricky, as they can be in a weird format. If they're simple images in epub files, you can extract them, then convert them with KCC into a usable file. Epub files can be opened with any file archival program line winrar. Just extract content and look at what it contains. If you end up with single page images, then the process shouldn't be hard.
You can also just extract them then do this process to convert them into kfx: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...postcount=1601 |

Yes, there are cases where pages are not 'just images' but have text as well.
I dealt with one recently (actually a fixed layout AZW3), where the page images were not even the same size, and there were a handful of pages with text that was supposed to render and therefore was not reflected in the page images. I wound up taking screen captures of the 'texty' pages to replace those pages and rescaling all of them so they were the same size, then building a KFX using Kindle Create etc. The as-published book didn't support 2 page display even though it contained a number of 2 page spreads that were impossible to appreciate given they got split into single pages. It was a bit of work but I'm reading the finished product now and feel it was worth it. If display is large enough for spreads, I want to see them as they would be in print, or I feel I am missing something. But for the most part manga and comics are just images of pages. you can directly upload epubs to a kindle via https://amazon.com/sendtokindle if they are under 200mb.
if they are over 200mb and just contain images, you can use https://github.com/bust4cap/epub2cbz-gui to turn those into properly formatted cbz, including metadata info like chapters, then import those cbz into kcc to either turn them into split 200mb epubs to upload via the first link or into azw3, which you can then copy to your kindle via calibre (without reconverting them) |

Maybe convert the humble bundle pdf to cbz using this tool? https://github.com/ciromattia/kcc/issues/680
