The Kindle UK ebook is still one volume and only 85p

Maybe they don't understand digital sales and selling off old stock cheap as if it was tins of paint or a phone?

An oversight, most probably. But they do deserve it, going for underhand practices like that. I just hope some of the money does trickle down to those deserving of Clavell's royalties, if there are any.

Shogun is a great read. A bit naive and action oriented, but still more faithful to the topic that most modern Samurai novels, be they western or Japanese. I think that his King Rat is even better. Great POW novel. I got lost with his Hong Kong novels, and never read more from him.

My only complaint with Shogun is his changing the names of the historical characters. It is the same as reading a historical novel of the American Revolutionary War and having George Washington and other characters names changed.

The single eBook edition is available from eBooks.com UK for £0.99. You can travel and use PayPal to buy it. And as an extra added advantage, it's ePub.

It wasn't like that the guys could sue him, being sufficiently dead. Maybe he thought it was too fictional?

My guess is he didn't want to put up with a bunch of 'well, actually' crap when he decided to change things for dramatic purposes.

Seems to be available on Google Play books here in Canada as a single edition but at a much higher price than the UK version:

It was pretty common at the time. Master and Commander also follows real life story faithfully. By changing the name of the main characters and ships, O'Brian could later transpose them across the globe into other stories effortlessly.
