There are only a few bigger 6+ '' devices, why???
There is a great demand for bigger screen devices I guess. Me personally is looking for something like 8 inches or bigger. But there are actually none to choose from. Yes, there is Kindle with pure PDF support, IREX going bankrupt and some others. Basically what I need is good sharpness, good PDF support, folder support, multilingual support, touchscreen could be good (but not with additional layer, glare - is killer for me). Wacom screens are descent but still lack brightness. So there are none so far that would suite my needs. Is it because the cost to manufacture such a divice is too high, technology is not there yet or smth else?
P.S. iPad fans, please do not interfere. I will never ever read on LCD screen. |

I think that it is a combination of factors. Primarily, people are interested in a reader that is portable. The 6 inch screens are ideal for this purpose. They fit easily in peoples purses, backpacks, and briefcases. I think the 10 inch screens are popular with the folks who want a larger screen for PDF useage.
I am sure there is a market for a 7 or 8 inch screen but it is too small to be explored right now. The e-ink screens are not cheap to manufacture. The popularity of the 6 inch screen means that the production costs on those has probaly dropped. There is enough demand for the 10 inch (or close to 10 inch) screens that they are affordable. Producing a 7 or 8 inch screen would probably be costly based on the expected demand and would take away from producing the more popular 6 inch screen. I would expect new size screens as the e-reader prices continue to drop but that is probably a year or so out. |

Forgot something: I have the DXG and love it. It is relativly lightweight, the screen is great, and collections are to die for. OK, that might be a bit of hyperbole, but collections are really, really nice. The K3 will be introducing additional language support (Cyrillic and Chinese are the two biggies). It is believed that those will be made available on the DXG at the time of the K3 release but this has not be confirmed.
The controller is really easy to use and page turning is easy with the buttons. I like the DXG because it does not have a touch screen but I don't care for touch screens. It is a personal preference. |

Collections on the Kindle are Folders. Maybe they are closer to tags because you can have a book in multiple collections. They allow you to sort your ebooks how you would like and make finding books a great deal easier.
I have mine broken into Reading, To Be Read Fantasy, To Be Read Science Fiction, To Be Read History, To Be Read Fiction, To Be Read Literature, Read Fantasy, Read Science Fiction, Read History, Read Fiction, Read Literature ect... You choose the names of your folders and put the books were you want. It is pretty easy to do. |

pashlit- the wacom touch layer has nothing to do with the brightness of the screen. the layer is completely under the eink and does nothing to affect the brightness one way or the other.
what you perceive as a lack of brightness on the part of the Boox display is a concern of the software and not the hardware (when compared to other eink vizplex screens that may have a brighter background). |

In this thread I was just curious if there are any good devices with bigger screens. Seeing Amazon DX winning the battle is quite disappointing. But if people are happy with it I am considering purchasing it. Boox is great. If they come up with bigger screen, better price and higher contrast I will jump on it. I understand its tough to beat Amazon in that battle, cause Amazon's target is selling books and they can afford selling ereaders even below manufacturing cost. I dont like monopoly and that is another reason why I raised that question here. 6 inch is good cause its portable but for home use I d prefer bigger one. When I read books on a bench in the park I take 6 inch device but for books with charts and graphics I d like to have bigger one. PDF is a biggie for me. I am not just a common reader, I have lots of technical/finance stuff to read and its very tidious. Thats why I am looking for good contrast and sharpness and absence of glare. So contrast wise pearl screens are winning for now. |

The Pearl Screens are very nice I understand you very well. I want a large Pearl display device too
PocketBook's new devices will move to them when they are more available. You should take a look at them and decide if you can wait or not. |

I actually spent a good hour studying Pocket Books today. They have like close to 20 new devices to be produced. I dunno how long I can wait though. I need a good device now.

So what new Pocket Book devices will have pearl screen? And when are those models supposed to hit the market? Any ideas on prices? There are tons of videos on YouTube but its tough to say which one of them have newer screens.
