Talking Free (Kindle/Kobo/iTunes UK) 18 books from Orion [Kids/YA SFnal, Sports, Nature, Etc]

Well, I don't know what's going on, whether it's some sort of anniversary promotion or a multi-store glitch or whatever, but today in the UK, there are no fewer than 18 kids/YA-level titles, free courtesy of publisher Hachette's Orion Children's Books and Hodder imprints for you or any kiddies you know to enjoy.

It's a mix of mostly tween-level fiction novels (with one nature exploration non-fic guide), and mainly sfnal, with portions of a sci-fi dystopia save-the-world series, several historical supernatural fantasy titles, some literary coming-of-age & psychological drama thrillers, and a large chunk of a contemporary sports team drama series.

There's also a freebie audiobook short story available only for the UK.

Currently all available free @ Amazon UK, iTunes UK, and Kobo UK, but apparently not any of the usual EU/Oceania countries I spot-checked, though YMMV. ETA 3: Now also free @ B&N UK, and it's reported that they may also be free in other Commonwealth countries via Kobo (not available to Canadians, though).

NB: Linkage for B&N is not completely up yet. Their UK site started developing issues when I started checking, and none of these were free there, so I'm just going to finally eat my breakfast and slowly add in the links over the next couple of hours.

ETA: Linkage for B&N UK is now up, and I'd also check Google Play UK if I were you (and had a working Google Play UK account).

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because there are some really interesting-looking YA sfnal titles by established YA SF authors in this one, as well as a science-promoting nature book, both of which automatically nets it bonus points, but also for just being a sudden influx of 18 free books in general.

Enjoy!
  1. Deadly Factbook 2: Insects and Spiders by BBC nature presenter Steve Backshall (Wikipedia), in his eponymous Steve Backshall's Deadly series of introductory bio-science younger reader picture books under the BBC Earth aegis @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Doesn't seem to exist at B&N UK.
  2. The Alchemist and the Angel by Welsh author Joanne Owen (ISFDB, Wikipedia), an historical fantasy adventure set in 16th century Prague @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  3. The Dead Days Omnibus by Marcus Sedgwick (ISFDB, Wikipedia), a tween/YA-level supernatural sorcery urban fantasy conspiracy thriller @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  4. The Incredible Luck of Alfie Pluck by Jamie Rix (ISFDB, Wikipedia), a tween-level zany schoolboy-on-the-run antics adventure with an apparent alien invasion element @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  5. Talina in the Tower by Australian author Michelle Lovric (ISFDB), a tween historical fantasy set in 1840s Venice in a world with magical shapeshifting creatures @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  6. Timecatcher Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick (ISFDB), a magical fantasy adventure set in Dublin @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  7. Innocent by Anne Cassidy, a YA contemporary family drama psychological thriller centred around the effects of an apparent hit-and-run @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  8. The Sandfather by Linda Newbery, a tween family drama coming-of-age literary novel @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  9. Blood Alchemy by Benjamin J. Myers (ISFDB), 3rd in his Bad Tuesdays series of sfnal dystopian mystery/thriller adventures apparently set in a parallel universe, starring kids saving the world against some kind of conspiracy @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  10. The Nonesuch King by Benjamin J. Myers, 4th-in-series @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  11. A Crystal Horseman by Benjamin J. Myers, 5th-in-series @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  12. Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  13. Under Pressure by Alan Gibbons, 2nd-in-series @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.

  17. Power Play by Alan Gibbons, 6th-in-series @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.
  18. Final Countdown by Alan Gibbons, 8th-in-series @ Amazon UK & iTunes UK & Kobo (available to the UK). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK.

Bonus exclusive audio freebie, a fantasy short by Edward Cox (ISFDB):

The Relic Guild: Hemlock @ Amazon UK and thence to Audible UK where I can't provide you a direct link without having an account there. ETA 2: @ Audible UK link helpfully provided by koland, thanks!

Hemlock is a free, short introduction to the world of Edward Cox's The Relic Guild, a debut fantasy novel that is also available from Audible. This exclusive prologue is only available as an Audio download.

Charlie Hemlock, an out-of-luck minor criminal has been hired by a mysterious and terrifying stranger to kidnap a young woman, for purposes unspecified. But the Labyrinth is a dangerous place, and Charlie and his companions may find that not everyone is happy with their work...

Not sure why but I was able to get a few, but then I only tested a few.

Only worked with Kobo. And I'm not in the UK (But do live in the Commonwealth)
