Choose the calibre library to browse…
I deliberately choose a non-standard port. Just use whatever calibre shows you when starting the server.

FOR OP https://dzone.com/articles/how-to-ch...port-8080-or-a

8080 is supposed to be for personal servers but I have a couple of things running on my PC that also qualify as that - "server side" components which support remote control apps on my tablets.
I think VLC tries to grab 8080 also if you enable its server stuff

That's why I use 8088. One utility I run has 8080 hard coded as the port and I really don't feel like recompiling it or digging out a hex editor to change the port.

Hope the OP responds.
Until he does we are just speculating as to whether it a port number issue, or something different.
Is there a log he can grab and upload?

The port is already changed from the default 8080 to a random number i chose, and i can't sign in with the wrong password because the page i need to get to the password input won't load. I'm doing all this over wifi, but on the same network, so basically LAN, and all the computers I've tested DO have different subnets. (Like the server pc has 192.168.0.115 but the computer im trying to access it from is 192.168.0.117 which aren't my real IP addresses but still) Though i hadn't experienced any issues with this before now. I can access any folder i want if i set it shared, and lastly the antivirus I'm using is Avira, which doesn't seem to have any objections to calibre that i can see.

I've followed the guide and the port number I'm using is not being used by anything else.

Log is just a big text file
So .zip and attach ( via go advanced reply option) or paste inside spoiler tags
Knowing that it times out before asking for password is a clue

Quick question is if it works without a password?

It works with or without a password on the host PC, but from any other it just times out before the library select page

Here you go. The very beginning of the log is about a year ago when i was initially learning about the content server and how to use it.

Have you tried modifying the Windows firewall settings? Start typing Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security in search and open it. Click on Properties and set the Inbound Connections to Allow in Domain and Private (you can also do this for Public but only for testing). Click on Apply and if no error popups, click on OK.

Your network should be set to private unless you are running a domain network at home and should not be set to public at home. If it is set to public, a quick Google search should find how to set it back to private if it won't let you change the mode

Hmmm I've modified the settings and got my housemate to try and connect but it still times out for him. As for the network, its set to private.

Here you go. The very beginning of the log is about a year ago when i was initially learning about the content server and how to use it.
Go to preferences--sharing over the net click the Advanced tab:
go to "The interface on which to listen for connections" Clear it and enter ::

See screenshot:

Try--clear out your server logs first--then re-post if it works if not then post the new logs.
