Friedrich is a Danish translation of his lavishly photo-illustrated archaeology and natural history book about the volcanic island of Santorini aka Thera (Wikipedia), considered the RL basis for the Atlantis Myth, examining the history and origins of the myths through a geological and archaeological basis, free courtesy of publisher Aarhus University Press of Denmark.

Geologen Walter Friedrich har i mere end 30 år udforsket Santorini, og Ilden i havet er hans beretning om, hvordan vulkaner har præget øens historie, geografi og geologi. Bogens centrale tema er skildringen af, hvordan Santorinis blomstrende bronzealderkultur blev begravet under et tykt lag aske ved et af de kraftigste udbrud nogensinde: den minotiske eruption. Is the riddle of the lost Atlantis resolved? New geological and archaeological finds of the Greek volcanic island of Santorini brings a lost culture to light again - maybe the culture, Plato described in his Atlantis myth.

The geologist Walter Friedrich has more than 30 years exploring Santorini, and the fire in the sea is his account of how volcanoes have marked the island's history, geography and geology. The book's central theme is the description of how Santorini's flourishing Bronze Age culture were buried under a thick layer of ash on one of the most powerful eruption ever: the minotiske eruption. Completely new finds and dating methods have now made it possible to pinpoint the outbreak to about 1613 BC and reconstruct the island's appearance before the disaster.

Santorini volcano reminds us that we are small and the great nature: Volcanos live their own life unpredictable and can overwhelm the human cultures in minutes. The fire in the sea make this experience live, and the historical drama that lies beneath the volcano's ash, put in scene with informative illustrations and photographs of high quality.
