Calibre can't convert anything anymore

Calibre seems to be unable to convert anything anymore. It's a problem that started for me a few weeks ago with version 8.62 and that keeps occurring no matter what newer or older version I install.

Every time I try to install a version, I get this error message: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I'm wondering how I could fix this problem since installing // reinstalling doesn't do the trick.

I've attached a screenshot of my error message, a bug report the program made after I tried to convert an epud file to mobi, and the original epub ebook. I've specifically tried to convert an ebook that calibre already successfully converted in the past, so I'm sure the problem isn't the ebook itself.

The problem with the install means that there is something missing/corrupt at the Windows level.

The conversion problem says that there are access permission issues on your system.

Whether these are related I am not sure, but I strongly suspect they are.

It might be a good idea to run a complete scan of your system for a virus or trojan in case it is something like that that's messing things up.

@Nepherius - try using Calibre Portable, if it can do the conversions then you'll know your library is OK, and you'll be able to use the library while you're sorting out the install version.

As well as checking for nasties as suggested by itimpi, I would also run Windows Update to see if there any missing updates. And have a look in WU history for any failed updates at or about when you installed 0.8.62 - i.e. within the last couple of months.
