Found it (thanks!), but Alf's main page still says 6.5.2.

I just thought about something.
What does K4PC download? Does it download all books the same, or for a 'default' reader registered at Amazon or something? If 1.19 becomes mandatory and downloads KFX only, there will be a lot of older e-readers that cannot read those books. My KPW1 can't, as a start... |

Oh, OK. So K4PC is its own device. It'll probably be registered as a "Kindle" at the Amazon site then, after you log in. I'll have to check. I never go to My Kindle because there's nothing there but my KPW1, and 4 books

Yes, K4PC is another "device" just like the Android and iOS apps and shows up in the send to options when buying and on the devices section of Manage Your Content & Devices.

No doubt Alf will update it in due course.
This is a rather minor update. People using 6.5.2 only need to update to 6.5.3 if they use the obok plugin an come across one of the strangely coded kepubs. If anyone has been working on KFX and would like to share code anonymously, email to apprenticeharper@gmail.com would be appreciated. It would be nice to get K4PC/Mac KFX support into the tools. |

Perhaps but I had to search through 8 pages to find out if I was still up to date on the tools or not. When a thread goes off topic it can add pages pretty quickly so that the actual topic gets crowded out.

I've added the latest release version number to the first post in this thread to make it easier.

Thanks pdurrant. That aught to save a lot of people some confusion. I was a bit behind at 6.4.3.

It varies with the reading device/app and often the book.
The baseline is Old Kindles and apps get Mobi7, newer ones get KF8 or KFX. But some books are Topaz, some are enhanced typography, some are fixed format, etc. They simply deliver the "best" version your device can handle. The Kindle paradigm is that you don't buy a specific format: you buy the book license and the Kindle system makes sure you can read it on whatever device you have. You're not supposed to worry your pretty little head over the plumbing. It's their version of multiformat. The cue to look for is explicit DRM-free notices, number of simultaneous devices, and enhanced typography. Enhanced typography plus a fixed number of simultaneous reading devices means you *might* get KFX depending on your reading tool. It's all black boxed to simplify "user experience". Lowest common denominator stuff. Last edited by fjtorres; 01-14-2017 at 07:40 AM. |
