I apologize, as I typed that message I unconsciously typed what I saw in the message above. I meant the Kindle was just opened, but had the updates blocked per the usual folder method, had never been connected to wifi or registered. Sorry for the confusing first message!

At my age, 72, it is hard to know how long original programming will take.

There where a lot of returns, most about uneven lighting.
Regardless of the box, it is probably a return.
So if you are not happy with the lighting (real or just subjective), send it back for exchange.
You should get an original stock device back in exchange.

Ordered the newest oasis (with 3g).. hopefully it doesn't arrive with 5,9.2 buuut if it does I'll either return it or pop it open to finally find those serial/JTAG ports (I've got a bit of hardware experience, fortunately).

Would love to help test and even contribute if I've got the right version... Seems I have some reading to do.

I'll be back Friday when it's delivered.

If it arrives with 5.9.2 - it is probably a returned item.
If you don't like the lighting, exchange it, you might get a fresh one in exchange.

Nobody has found the serial port connection for the KOA2 (yet).
I don't think anyone has tried to open it (yet).
I have not searched the web for any tear-down posts, maybe some other site has the information.

Whatever you find will be useful.

(I have seen tablets with no apparent way to open them, on those you use a suction cup as a handle to pull the glass off. I have no idea if that is the way the KOA2 is assembled. Yours might end up being exchanged as "broken in shipment". )

My 3G one popped today already on 5.9.2(3250690044) and serial number G000 S209 7501 03BH. @knc1 anything can be done or return it is??

Edit: Even after adding the update blocking folder it is showing "A free update is available for your Kindle". Is this normal??
