Easy download of (some) Google ebooks to Stanza

Hi, posting to let folks here know about a new feature at www.retroread.com, a site for converting Google epubs to the Kindle mobi format. epubs downloaded from books.google.com are uploaded to retroread and converted to Kindle format and added to community library.

Since the epubs are also archived, it was more or less trivial to add functionality to recognize iPhone/iPad client when browsing there, and render href links for library titles using epub:// protocol, which means that if you have the free Stanza reader installed, it will be launched and the epub will be downloaded to your Stanza library.

It is otherwise more or less a pain to move a Google epub to Stanza. Of course, you can read Google ebooks online with Google's own reader, but you can't read offline plus it is not a particularly good reader to start with.

If you don't find the title you want (currently hundreds already converted out of universe of 1M at Google), you may of course upload it yourself, which has the side benefit that you are adding the title to the library for both Kindle and iPhone/iPad users.

The library is searchable with Google Book Search; you may also search Google's library for titles to download from within the site.

See www.retroread.com and www.retroread.com/stanza

Enjoy.
