Kindle Not Detected after Windows 10 upgrade
Before upgrade Calibre was working fine with two different Kindles. After the upgrade neither is detected.
I have updated Calibre to the latest version. The devices are visible in Explorer and Device Manager. No Ignored Devices set. Interface plugin is enabled. I tried changing the drive letter but it had no effect. I tried a different USB port but it had no effect. This is the debug log. calibre 2.35 [64bit] isfrozen: True is64bit: True Windows-8-6.2.9200 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '8', '6.2.9200') Python 2.7.9 Windows: ('8', '6.2.9200', '', 'Multiprocessor Free') USB devices on system: [u'usb\\vid_1949&pid_0004&rev_0100', u'usb\\vid_1058&pid_071a&rev_2011', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1c26&rev0004', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000', u'usb\\vid_0461&pid_4e22&rev_0100', u'usb\\vid_04a9&pid_1771&rev_0206&mi_01', u'usb\\vid_04a9&pid_1771&rev_0206&mi_00', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1c2d&rev0004', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000', u'usb\\vid_413c&pid_2107&rev_0104', u'usb\\vid_04a9&pid_1771&rev_0206'] Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\devices\scanner.py", line 85, in __call__ DriveError: No removable drives found Drives detected: No disabled plugins Looking for devices of type: MTP_DEVICE List of WPD PNP ids: [u'\\\\?\\swd#wpdbusenum#{6b764261-7fb4-11e3-b109-c81f662c5345}#0000000000100000#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\swd#wpdbusenum#{1db98ce4-4518-11e5-9bc9-c81f662c5345}#0000000000002000#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}'] No suitable MTP devices found Looking for devices of type: SMART_DEVICE_APP All IP addresses {'{24B4194F-440D-11E5-9BC2-806E6F6E6963}': [{'addr': '127.0.0.1', 'netmask': '255.0.0.0', 'broadcast': '127.255.255.255'}], '{E0C39E85-415D-4364-96C2-4121C006C749}': [{'addr': '192.168.1.6', 'netmask': '255.255.255.0', 'broadcast': '192.168.1.255'}]} No device is connected Looking for devices... u'usb\\vid_1949&pid_0004&rev_0100' Devices possibly connected: None This is on my Fathers pc. Works fine on a K4NT
Do you have an original Kindle (K1)? telling us the EXACT model is important. Including the Firmware level... Might be. Mentioning that you Rooted the device and if you are running modified code |

It sounds more like some aspect of WPD is flaky on Win10...

The solution is probably lost here on this thread because it is buried since I note that others have since posted they are having problems with Win 10 and Calibre not recognising a variety of devices. Cheerio John |

there is nothing special to be done with a K4.
I plug it in, w10 sounds a device found tone. About a minute and Calibre inventories the books. In my case 21 of them. Behaves just like My TAB2 does. (I have to use a card reader for my Astak as the usb connector now only charges. Broken traces to pins) |

Also, Windows 10 is a new OS and doesn't "know" the devices that the previous OS knew. The first time a USB device is plugged in Win10 has to do its "touchy feely who-are-you" negotiations with the device. Only when these are finished is all device interaction available to apps.
You should first introduce the device to Win10 without any apps that interact directly with the device (e.g. calibre, ...) running. After that first "introduction" session, you should be able to return to your normal procedure. |

Also, for those that used the installer file on portable computers, allow Updates (downloads) to complete and install, reboot. Repeat There were a whole bunch that needed to be done, some were 100M+ files . There were things that still did not work after the first batch completed (with a allowed reboot), that just started working the next day. (W10home does many updates in background and s not mask-able. W10 pro has a option for a 30 day delay) |

It is not clear from this thread of messages if "the Calibre not recognizing Kindles in a Win 10 environment" is resolved or not. I have the problem and am not sure if I should submit my problem in a separate thread or if this is currently being worked on. Thanks, Mike
