East of Denver by Greg Hill wins 2011 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Winner
and actually looks very interesting. I'll be looking forward to reading it when it's available:
Story from The Denver Post this morning: Greg Hill doesn't necessarily want to talk to the media. He's worried about how he should present himself now that he's a "novelist." Does he play up his intellectual side, become one of those pipe-and-jacket authors? Or does he go gonzo like others — surround himself with guns; "mace the reporter"? His image matters right now, he jokes, because even if his new book doesn't sell, if the pages are used only as insulation in a homeless guy's jacket, "It will be in my obituary," he said. http://www.denverpost.com/books/ci_18472053 on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/East-Denver-Gr.../dp/0525952799 |

I'm excited about this; I actually read his excerpt when it was one of the semi-finalists available for download and I loved it.
It's funny how it illustrates just how hard it is to determine what a book is about from an excerpt, though; I thought it was a touching coming-of-maturity tale as a young man struggles to take care of his aging father... turns out it's a book about a bank heist. I'll still buy it anyway, though. Absolutely beautiful writing. |

Sounds interesting; thanks for the Denver Post link. Unfortunately, the book isn't slated for publication until June 2012 ... in any form.
