I don't think that v2.0 made the directory either.
Once upon a time, KUAL would create several "default" buttons if the extension folder was empty or missing. Seems that has been gone for a long time now. The GIT history should show when that got dropped. |

hmm hi mate.
Yeah... I will look into that. That is definitely not a Good Thing TM. I'm surprised I missed it. Or perhaps not. Poisoned by familiarity. |

@ixtab: Ha! Thanks for the details .
@twobob: Will look into it . EDIT: Should be fixed in git (hopefully without impact when we do have a proper config). Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-15-2013 at 09:53 PM. |

2.2 released. (Niggle-fix release)
Tested on ancient - and Virgin - Touch device. Folder is created. Updated docs to reflect actual output of the 2.x series. Enjoy. |

Awesome piece of software. I'd more-or-less given up on modding my kindle beyond screensavers, due to the hassle involved in accessing the kindlets - I have a lot of books and I'm awful at putting them in collections, so it was always a pain finding anything twice. But KUAL makes it so much cleaner and easier.
What i would like is to see KUAL on bootup, with the default kindle interface launching from within it, and returning to KUAL if you exit the book manager. Would this ever be a goal of the KUAL project? Can't report any bugs, as I've not hit any, with Paperwhite, latest firmware. |

So I understand you correctly:
You want A) KUAL to launch "At boot", then B) to relaunch when you... The next part I am shaky on. Exit the book manager? You mean like shutdown? or something? Do you mean relaunch when you stop reading a book? Sounds like A) is feasible. That would just be a little script. I'm not sure on the details of B) so can't say for sure. but most things are possible. As to that be the goal of the project, not really as we use the Amazon kindlet structure as a framework to run from. However if you outline more clearly what B) might be I could have a peek at it for you. Did you check out... https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...1&postcount=15 perhaps just making it a "one button" firing process would meet your needs. |

just noticed this..
if the screensaver kicks in while an app (launched from kual) is running, when returning.. after pressing power button in case of PW.. some apps resume.. while some return to the kual screen.. some examples: resumes -- leafpad, CM returns to kual -- kterm, kindle explorer looks like the 'non-resuming' apps are still running, though.. when pressing power button again to activate screensaver, these apps show up momentarily.. may be a 'data loss' issue if, say, a file is being edited in vi under kterm.. enlightenment..? |

possibly the differences in the titling are causing the underlying LUA to treat the various windows differently.
need a lot more metrics to even begin to guess. Controlling the visibility of the "return state" of any app using the non-suicide switch I think we will list as "Unsupported" as too many corner cases would lead to endless bloat. |

Some more trials:
.sh file for leafpad has '&'.. but not there in kterm's .sh.. tried adding it.. but no change.. frotz/glulxe/frob are able to resume after being interrupted by screensaver.. though they are actually running under kterm.. in the .json file for both leafpad and kterm, i had added the "exitmenu": false clause.. leafpad is able to resume but not kterm.. tried removing the "exitmenu": false clause from kterm's .json.. now it's able to resume.. so... |

I tried ps -ef|grep <application_name> and found that the non-resuming applications were indeed running.. did a 'killall <application_name>' to remove.. Removing "exitmenu": false from .json file of Kindle Explorer also made it resumable after screensaver.. leafpad doesn't seem to be affected, though.. still resumes ok even with exitmenu in .json.. |

To "Forward" things - and additionally to rename the windows
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=194270 to get the current "window name" use xwininfo -tree -root if you are unsure of what your thing is called. To rename / reorder the layers use xdotool (The following assumes you created a false extensions folder called xdotool to install the files to in /mnt/us/extensions/xdotool/bin and the libs are placed in /mnt/us/extensions/xdotool/lib, adjust this to your reality ) Here's the general script to force things frontwards. Code:
#!/bin/sh # arg sanity check if [ -z "$1" ]; then echo fail, enter search exit fi #adjust to your reality export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/mnt/us/extensions/xdotool/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH export PATH=/mnt/us/extensions/xdotool/bin:$PATH wids=`xdotool search "$1"` #wids=`xdotool search "$1" | tac` # optionally reverse the order # reversing the order is often desirable to get multi layered windows to # display their chronologically last child as the front window. echo "----------------------------" echo "searching on $1" # make it space free INNER=`echo -ne $1 | sed 's/ //g'` echo tidied name value is: $INNER echo "----------------------------" for wid in $wids; do echo "window being processed --- $wid" #rename them #Portrait #xdotool set_window --name "L:A_N:application_ID:com.""$INNER""_PC:N" $wid #Landscape xdotool set_window --name "L:A_N:application_ID:com.""$INNER""_O:R_PC:N" $wid #stick them at the very top of the stack. # this order of iteration may not be the right one for all cases. xdotool windowreparent $wid `xwininfo -root | awk ' /xwininfo: Window id:/ {print $4}'` done and call that like ./fronter.sh app_window_name I'm not suggesting this is a good solution. Just throwing around a few tricks for your testing. Last edited by twobob; 09-02-2013 at 11:30 AM. Reason: spaces unknown operands |

If I want to use the KUAL in the 5.3.6,
is there any way to got it? What should I do with the Jailbreak and Kindlet developer certificates and Rescue Pack? |
