Actually, it's not the original films from either that interests me. But Amazon Prime Video tends to have more older films, from the sixties through the nineties. Netflix used to, but they have far less now.

Movies like Larry Cohen's Q or Basket Case, or the slew of spaghetti westerns they have available.

Douglas Clegg's The Children's Hour is only $0.99 at Amazon.

Quote:
They smell your fear. They come at night. They follow you. They remember what you did.

When Joe Gardner returns with his wife and kids to the peaceful mountain town of Colony, West Virginia, he doesn’t expect to run into the child who disappeared when he was a boy. But she remembers Joe. And she has plans for him.

And generally more variety. Old and indie appeal to me because new big studio = cgi cartoons.

Scapegoat is on sale for $2.99

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HDSW5BB...v_ov_lig_dp_it

March 29, 1987... For metalheads Mike Rawson, Lonnie Deveroux, and Pork Chop, an RV road trip to Wrestlemania III becomes a one-way ticket to hell. While delivering an illegal shipment of counterfeit wrestling merchandise, an ill-fated shortcut through the Kentucky backwoods leads them to a teenaged girl carved head to toe in arcane symbols. Soon our unlikely heroes are being hunted through the boonies by a cult of religious crazies who make the Westboro Baptists look like choirboys… a cult that will stop at nothing to get the girl back and complete a ritual that has held an ancient evil at bay for centuries… Until now.

Metalheads, Wrestlemania III and Kentucky backwoods? If this were a low-budget '80's movie, it'd be a cult classic!

Jeffrey Konvitz' The Sentinel is $1.99 at Amazon. One of a slew of '70's religious shockers, along with Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist and The Omen. It was also had a fairly faithful movie adaptation.

The synopsis makes it sound like rip-off of Rosemary's Baby, but it isn't one.

Quote:
Aspiring model Allison Parker finally moves into her dream apartment: a brownstone on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. But her perfect home quickly turns hellish.

The building is filled with a cast of sinister tenants, including a reclusive blind priest, who seems to watch her day and night through an upstairs window. Eventually, Allison starts hearing strange noises from the empty apartment above hers. Before long, she uncovers the building’s demonic secret and is plunged into a nightmare of sinful misdeeds and boundless evil.
Konvitz wrote a sequel, but I don't remember it holding a candle to this book.

Here After by Sean Costello is $0.99 at Amazon.

Quote:
Following the death of his ten-year-old son, physician Peter Croft embarks on a desperate, seemingly random search for a missing child, risking his sanity, even his life in a grief-induced quest. His journey propels him into the darkest reaches of human suffering, and pits him squarely against an adversary whose own obsession defies all reason.

A western/horror novella, Walk the Sky by Robert Swartwood and David B. Silva is $0.99 at Amazon.

Quote:
Things are bad for Clay Miller and George Hitchens.

For starters, they’re on the run from a posse out for blood. Then, as they ride through the Utah desert, the two come across the crumpled body of a young boy on the brink of death. The boy can’t speak, but it’s clear he’s frightened of something nearby. When asked what’s got him so scared, the terrified boy writes three letters in the dirt …

DED

By nightfall, Clay and George are tied up in jail. They can’t move. They can’t speak. They can do nothing but listen to the boy, outside, screaming for his life.

Yes, things are bad for Clay and George.

And they’re only going to get worse.

Okay. That's strike one right there and would usually cause me to skip the book altogether. But it does sound pretty good

Tony Urban's Within the Woods is $0.99 at Amazon

Quote:
Don't go in the woods...

For 12-year-old Garrett and his four best friends, the idyllic summer of 1989 crashes to a halt when his older brother vanishes.

Something is very wrong in Sallow Creek, Pennsylvania.

Something is turning their neighbors, their relatives, into unstoppable monstrosities...

Monsters that are coming for the them.

Their small town is under siege, but the adults refuse to believe the truth.

Can five young misfits and outcasts save the day?
Okay, so the book is clearly influenced by It.... hey, it was only a buck.

Seven For The Slab: A Horror Portmanteau by Doug Lamoreux is FREE at Amazon today.

Quote:
It's nearly midnight when a curious snoop finds his neighbors dead.

He gathers his wits and calls emergency services. Despite a thunderstorm, Sheriff's deputies, the Fire Department and an ambulance all respond quickly.

But there's little they can do; the victims are long dead. The snoop invites the emergency workers inside, out of the rain, to await the arrival of the coroner and the funeral home staff.

The lightning flashes... The thunder rolls... And the setting inspires the police, firefighters, and paramedics to pass the time by telling stories, both thrilling and chilling. And you are invited to join them.

In Seven For The Slab, Rondo award nominee Doug Lamoreux spins seven eerie tales of terror and mystery into one bewitching brew.

Bottled Abyss by Benjamin Kane Ethridge is on sale for $0.99 at Amazon.

Quote:
Herman and Janet Erikson are going through a crisis of grief and suffering after losing their daughter in a hit and run. They've given up on each other, they've given up on themselves.

When their dog goes missing, Herman resolves to find the animal, unaware he's hiking to the border between the Living World and the Dead.

Long ago the gods died and the River Styxx dried up, but a bottle containing its waters still remains in the badlands. What Herman discovers about the dark power contained in those waters will change his life forever.
My first thought was 'How many Hermans have I seen in my horror fiction?" I couldn't think of any.
