Qualcomm to Buy NXP
Today announcement of Qualcomm to Buy NXP explains why i.MX 7 is so delayed.
Hopefully it is going to move forward in couple of years. Good luck everybody on epaper train. |

What "mind blowing reader based on i.MX 7" is it that you're referring to?

The topic is seriously misleading. It needs to be changed.

That might have some interest if it suggested further work on "Mirasol" displays. (The discussion of the demands on the company, might suggest the opposite.)

I think the big news here is more about scale than anything else. With things like this and AT&T buying Time Warner companies are getting larger than they have in the past and there will be fewer and fewer of them. There are scary aspects to this.
It's nothing really new but at the moment there seems to be a lot of it and as there are more and more super-giant companies they'll accumulate more and more power. This is a good time to be 75 years old. It's more likely to be you young guy's problem. Barry |

I had been hoping the latest Kobos (Aura One and Aura Edition 2) would be based on the i.Mx-7. Oh well. Next time, maybe!

OK. I didn't expect such a question here.
The electrophoretic displays (eReaders) are driven by i.MX processors which were developed by Freescale which was acquired by NXP which was recently acquired by Qualcomm. Your Onyx device with pathetic performance and ancient Android 4 (compared to phones and tablets) would make giant step with new generation i.MX chip. |

What kind of giant step? I use my devices for reading, and they are easily good enough for that already. I'm sure it would be nice if the page turns were even faster, but they are already faster than the time it takes me to turn a page in a physical book. Are you thinking about other types of applications (browsers, for example)?

It is somewhat off-topic for us Septuagenarians to be lamenting the world we have created - in the NEWS Forum.
