With a PocketBook you have (at least) three options for downloading books from Overdrive. (The PocketBook can handle .ascm files so it's flexible.)

Use the browser to go to your library's Overdrive page. (The PocketBook's browser can be bookmarked to that page and will remember your password if you want it to). I usually use my PocketBook this way for Overdrive borrowing.

Download the .ascm file to a computer or tablet and use the Send-To-PocketBook feature. PocketBook gives you an email address when you register with them (yourname@pbsync.com). The only issue with this is that, if you're in a hurry, it can take up to 30 or 40 minutes for the book's .ascm file to be available. I've tested this feature several times.

You can download your .ascm file to your computer and move it to your PocketBook with a USB cable. (No need for ADE as it's built into the PocketBook).

Since the PocketBook supports DropBox, I'm guessing you could save your .ascm file there and download it using the PocketBook's DropBox app. (I've never tried this.)

I think you could also copy the .ascm file to your PocketBook Cloud and download it to your PocketBook from there by syncing. (Haven't tried this either.)

There's no Kindle or Kobo style of Overdrive support where the borrowed book "magically" appears in your account. But, because PocketBooks have "ADE" built in, you can buy a book from anywhere DRM ePubs are sold. Very flexible.
