It should not be necessary to reinstall nightmode. Could you provide some more information? What does "before" mean. Was the night mode working under KSM 07 and stopped after installing upgrade 2? Or did you upgrade from KSM 06 directly to KSM 07 including the two updates?

Edit: I looked at the sources, and now I remember. The last version that fully supported toggling night mode by png was KSM 04. In KSM 06, I already removed the toggle_nightmode.png, and in KSM 07, I removed the corresponding code. But, of course, Mini user have no other chance to toggle it. To restore this function, please copy nightmode.sh from .kobo to .adds\kbmenu\fmonsh and rename it to toggle_nightmode.sh (so that you have .adds\kbmenu\fmonsh\toggle_nightmode.sh). Next time, you start nickel, it should work, provided kbmenupngs\toggle_nightmode.png is available.

And just another question does running a factory reset actually copy the partitions again from the recovery partition and remove everything fully?

Thanks for a great update, the only (and very minor) problem I came across is that, in English, under the "configure" menu, the correct spelling for 'cancle' is 'cancel'.

No need to uninstall it, there is no real conflict. The only thing is, that it does not any longer work under KSM 07, update 2.
To make nightmode work (if you have not already done it the way I said in the previous post, which however presupposes that you still had toggle_nighmode.png from KSM 4 on your device), you can do this.

• select (in KSM home) "configure"
• select "[nickel]"
• select "add item" then select "avoidPickel=false", and "return"
• select "save and exit"

This should make nightmode and reboot work again.

KSM 07 (with update 2) provides now a means to change options in configuration files. I think the handling is straight forward and give therefore only a short example. This presupposes that you have not already added the Screenshots option to Kobo eReader.conf.

• select (from KSM home) "tools" > "kobo diverse.msh" > "edit nickel conf.sh"
• select the section "[FeatureSettings]"
• select "add item" > "Screenshots=true"
• select "return"
• select "save and exit"

In order to disable screenshots you would

• select (from KSM home) "tools" > "kobo diverse.msh" > "edit nickel conf.sh"
• select the section "[FeatureSettings]"
• select "Screenshots=true"
• select "Screenshots=false" (or "delete")
• select "return"
• select "save and exit"

Which options are available depends on the content of .adds\kbmenu\confoptions\nickel_conf_options.txt. When editing this file, use only a unix style editor. For instance, under the section [ApplicationPreferences], you find

CurrentLocale=en_GB
CurrentLocale=en_US

In order to add more options you would add further lines like

CurrentLocale=fr_BE
CurrentLocale=fr_CA

and so on.

Note, that I included all keys that I knew off. Not all of them work with each firmware version.

It is important that you do not use white space between keys and "=" and values, in any of the configuration option files, even if a configuration file (nightmode.ini) does contain white spaces in such positions.

About a mistake in the options list for KSM configuration:

In the options list for the KSM configuration (.adds\kbmenu\confoptions\ksm_ini_options.txt)

poweroffRandomdir=$ksmroot/mynotes/pofftest
poweroffRandomdir=/mnt/onboard/.adds/kbmenu_test01/mynotespofftest

there is a mistake. Correct is

poweroffRandomdir=$ksmroot/mynotes/pofftest
poweroffRandomdir=/mnt/onboard/.adds/kbmenu/mynotes/pofftest

Both links refer to the same location, I gave them to demonstrate the alternative of using the variable $ksmroot instead of writing the full path (Unfortunately, I left the full path to my test version of KSM, which is not installed on your device). Therefore, if you want to test the example random power off screen, please select poweroffRandomdir=$ksmroot/mynotes/pofftest, or correct the path of the other entry before selecting it.

Currently (update 3), there are three configuration menus.

KSM: (home) configure
Nickel: (home) tools > kobo diverse.msh > edit nickel conf.sh
Nightmode: (home) tools > kobo diverse.msh > edit nightmode conf.sh

You can find all option files in .adds\kbmenu\confoptions.

EDIT: The location of the option files in KSM 8 is .adds\kbmenu_user\confoptions.

Some of the entries in the configuration files are to long to be completely desplayed in one line of the screen. To improve a little on this toggle to landscape before entering the configuration menu.
If you do not see the "toggle rotation" option, activate by selecting "(KSM home) configure, ... (the section is "[general]", the key is "enablerotation")

Somehow I forgot that there are devices that have no home or light button, and need to toggle the nightmode hack by png. Over the time I removed support for this in KSM. Instead of explaining different way to make it work, I will provide support again with the next update.

When is the next update going to be released? And one other thing for some reason on vlavsoft launcher I can't set my brightness I tried another version and it doesn't work, is that related to fmon or is that a bug? I am using h20. and pbchess-2015.04_kobo.zip

I still have to do some minor changes, and then I will wait some more days whether there are further reports of bugs or other shortcomings that I should (or can) address immediately. So maybe the update will be available around the end of the next week.

Fmon is not related to this. I do not have my Glo with me and can therefore not test it now. I just installed vlavsoft launcher on my Touch. I can see the frontlight settings menu of vlavsoft launcher and can change the value (but of course it has no further visible effect on the Touch [edit: strace output suggests that it works as expected]). Could you give more details? Do you see the menu? Can you change the value, but it has no effect on the brightness? Did it work correctly before you installed update 2? Or did you only try to change the brightness in vlavsoft only after you updated.

I can adjust the brightness using KSM 07 update 2 on my H2O, the only difference is that I use 2015.3. 2015.4 is "in progress", so that might be the problem.

Just to ask, what type of images we can use and what size (in pixels and/or kb/mb...)?

Have a look at the examples in .adds\kbmenu\mynotes\pofftest. There are files with the extension .html. For the supported subset of html tags, see this page. You can set the width and height of the images, therefore the size of the image files and the dimension is not so important. Supported image formats are jpeg, png, bmp; maybe gif (I cannnot remember from the top of my head). If you want to test the files without powering off, select "scripts" > "browse" > "browse mynotes" > "pofftest" (or your new folder).

Yes, this is how it is. The disadvantage is that you have to build htmls. The advantage is that there is no need to resize images, and that you are not restricted to display images. I, for instance, will use the power off screen to display randomly conjugations, vocabulary lists and so on.

3. Will the brightness stay set in koreader ??
4. And I read often things about fmon, what is this ?

They are talking about what you can have displayed when you use "Power Off" in KSM. You can make a simple html page, which gives you a wide range of possibilities. Koreader has its own suspend/sleep function, that has several options including using the current book's cover image. You can define a path to an image of your choice to be used when the file has no cover image. (in Advanced options)

You can set the brightness within Koreader, there has been some discussion at Github about that issue, recently, I would expect additional options in that regard, in recent or future nightlies.

"fmon" refers to the file monitoring process that Sergey provided to launch programs from within the stock Kobo user interface (Nickel). It was a very important accomplishment when it was introduced, and is still used for a number of useful functions. Many of us now use KSM to launch both Koreader and Sergey's Coolreader port, though.
