IOError -- sending mobi book to Kindle Fire

Using caliber 1.23, Kindle Fire, Wi-Fi

Kindle/Amazon has the authorized sender address, Kindle has the proper Kindle email address.

Using the 'Connect/share' function returns:

Failed to send mail: error(10060, 'A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond')

Can someone explain the error? What am I do wrong?

The email transfer works fine using Outlook to send the book.

You probably did not configure Calibre correctly

Preferences:sending by email: Use the buttons at the lower right if appropriate (and fill in the blanks)
OR
Set up the Optional mail server. These values should be the same as you USE in outlook

Then use the Test email button
