I have used Python before, as well as Calibre, but i tried to get Dark Reverser's script and was unable to find it, it looked like his website was taken down. Do you know where i can get ereader2html.py?

Unfortunately we cannot post links for DRM removing scripts on the forum. it is against the rules so we can keep big brother away
However, using google to search for it usually works, or the friendly PM As a note, if you enter the script name right into google it goes along way |

I guess I'm just dense at the moment.......but I'm definitely doing something wrong when I try the converting thing, with Python. Maybe there is a certain order and I'm not doing it in that order? I've read your blog and I've read some help files...and still I'm lost. I downloaded a free book from Barnes and Noble and have been trying to convert it...but yes the DRM prevented me from doing so using Callibre. Can you "dumb" down the instructions for me? Please? Thanks so much. Debby |

Correct Sequence for DRM
I am so new at this I have turned green--so please be kind and guide me along as to the correct manner of changing B&N DRM into epub for my Sony PRS300. From what I have read it appears that I have to:
1-Download Python 2-Then run ignoblekey 3-Then run ignoblekeygen 4-Then run ignobleepub So after Step 4 would I then just be able to save to my eLibrary or would I have to import it into Calibre (sp?)???? |

Make sure it is Phython 2.6 (i.e. not Python 3.0), and you also need PyCrypto. Use only one of ignoblekey.pyw and ignoblekeygen.pyw (they do the same thing in different ways). The result of ignobleepub.pyw is a DRM-free ePub, which should work "as is" in your PRS-300.

Ok so I need:
1-Phython 2.6 2-PyCrypto 3-either one of the ignoblekey's 4-ignobleepub I presume these are all available online? And then I would be good to go! Can't wait to give it a try later tonight. Thanks for your quick response. |

And I have two .exe's in the folder for Pyton. Which one do I use? I guess I'm just lost all the way around. So more detailed info I suppose is needed. At least for me. thanks Debby |

The script should be called ignoblekey.pyw. If the extension is correct and Python is installed, this should show up with a blue and yellow python icon. Then all you need to do is double click on the script. I suggest putting the pycrypto executable in the same folder as ignoblekey.pyw.

When B&N introduced *another* DRM, my immediate reaction was to resolve never, but *NEVER* to buy from them. Many thanks to Cabbages for the work, thereby making it a little more likely that I will buy from B&N, now I can remove their DRM.
I hope B&N appreciate the irony! |

Don't use the key extractor anymore - it no longer works with recent versions of the B&N software as they have encrypted the key. Use the generator instead.

Hi all,
I am usually better at figuring things out than this but I think my newish mac is teaming up against me, I have downloaded all of the scripts and saved them in the same folder as pycrypto and when double click it just opens the python script for me to look at... I am sure I am missing something fairly obvious and I apologize for asking the obvious but what do I do once the script window is open?? Thanks for any help! |

Does the filename end in .py or .pyw? The MacOS (at least on 10.5) doesn't recognize the .pyw extension. Remove the 'w' and the next time you open it a runnable application with the same name will appear.

Thanks! I think that may be part of the problem. I need to understand my computer better but I have always used pc's and still do for work so for the most part my mac is still a mystery to me.
I also didn't have pycrypto properly installed - it turns out that I had to load some extra support options from my snow leopard install disk before it would work, but with all of that said and done still the only thing that happens when i double click the script is that it opens a python window showing the script. I am not sure why I can't get past this part any help would be much appreciated, thanks! |
