The new Fire 10 DOES have a one year limited warranty. The others do not.

In the UK all fires have a 1 years warranty but I'm hoping to get mine from John Lewis who offer a 2 year warranty as standard.

Consumer rights are much more generous in the EU than the US. A product has to be replaced or repaired in a period that would be considered "reasonable" for the lifespan of that product. A manufacturer can quote a specific time for a warranty, but that has no legal force.

Can someone please tell me what purpose a Lock Screen serves on an add-free Kindle Fire with no passcode set?
Why would anyone (with the exception of those who've opted in to ads) need to Swipe to Unlock an unlocked device?! Even in stock Android, no passcode should automatically equal no lockscreen. But at least you CAN disable swipe-to-unlock on Android (even though you shouldn't need to). |

How bizarre. Will keep my $15 then. Thanks. Any clue if all Fire tablets are like this, or is it just the new Fire 10?

I don't get it either. You get used to seeing the "all new" label and you don't immediately recognize something that *really* is "all new." It seems self-defeating to me.

My kids' three "new" (used) tablets all have lock screens, even though they're ad-free. These are the Fire 7 (non-HD) 2015 version (original cheap ones).

It's nice. It's better than previous version in most ways, more memory, faster CPU, higher resolution, longer battery life, though the screen isn't as bright. That's not a big issue, though.

Can you have two columns in landscape in the Kindle reader app? I know that you can't on the HD 8, but it seems a necessity to be able to read in landscape on a 10 inch tablet.

Yes, you can. I don't use it, since I like nice, big text, but the option is there.
