Thanks for documenting all this! I think I might also just start using AFwall+ and leave some more Onyx apps on the device to have app optimization and the refresh-modes work. As the video by MyDeepGuide shows not that many apps actually "phone home" and the amount of data they send is minimal but still. I'd rather block all of the Onyx apps.

Maybe I should add some more info about what breaks in the second post so it's documented in one place. I updated the the links to have the titles instead of just being a dump of links. If there are any other interesting guides or information that you think would be useful let me know.

Since the new 3.3.2 update (9916cdce0) there's an option to use the volume keys as scrolling keys under App Optimisation, this function is quite handy in a browser or PDF reader. This feature won't work if the Navigation Ball application is uninstalled or disabled, so I enabled com.onyx.floatingbutton again.

This is my current setup for 3.3.2

Wanted to check and see if any of y'all have updates in what you're debloating/degoogling? I just got my Tab Ultra C Pro and am about to start debloating/degoogling.

On my Onyx Boox Kon-Tiki 2 I had packages disabled.
I noticed that /data/data/ folder had their respective folders anyway.
So I disabled them all like this:

Now unnecessary folders in /data/data/ are gone, everything works OK.
However, the Wi-Fi once connected says "No internet connection". Although internet works!

I remember this issue being due to captive portal cheks, which I disabled back then with "settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0" and never had an issue since that.

Now doing the same doesn't change it.

Did I uninstall something I shouldn't have?
Thanks!

I tried to
Code:
pm install-existing com.dsi.ant.server
, but this caused the device to go “launcher boot loop”, when I see splash screen for 5-7 seconds, then launcher, then it says System UI crashed/force close.

I was able to send pm uniistall of that package with wired adb shell, and device went back to normal.

How am I supposed to revert pm uninstalled apps?

I find this the easiest way to restore uninstalled apps.

https://github.com/0x192/universal-android-debloater

You can also just use:
Code:
pm install --user 0 com....

I dunno. I always kept it simple:
Code:
pm disable com.bloat.app
You can easily reverse that:
Code:
pm enable com.bloat.app

I recently this program, very handy! Shows what is dangerous to remove, can select multiple things to uninstall or recover.

Hey guys, it seems to me like AFWall+ is not starting reliably at boot even with root, Startup fix through /data/adb/service.d/, auto startup enabled in app management, batt optimizations off. I have to manually open the app to get the "Firewall Enabled" notification to come on. Before I do, I can see in AdAway and PCAPdroid (which i also have to manually start despite setting it to load on boot) that there are connections being made and data being sent.

The only way I have seen that does anything is editing the hosts file, but this is per ip and not per app.
Is AdAway (Hosts file) solution, good enough to redirect to 127.0.0.1 all the ***.boox.com traffic instead (or alongside AFWall+)?

How can I get AFWall+ to start automatically and do what it is supposed to do?
I wish I could just disable internet permissions for certain apps, but Xprivacy is long dead.

Thanks!

Do you have PIN code set up in AfWall?
I had to disable it because otherwise rules weren’t applied upon boot.

Also, make sure to go in the settings and apply that workaround. Make sure Magisk gives permission to AFWall all the time.

Hey, I don't have any pin code enabled.
And I granted AFWall full SU permissions when I started the app for the first time. Magisk or AFWall has never prompted me again for them. Even when I go into the "Experimental" settings and click fix startup leaks and choose /data/adb/service.d, I don't get a new prompt for SU privileges, presumably because AFWall has them already.
Does it ask for these privaleges twice for you?
Are you taking about another time or different settings?

Thanks!

I don’t quite remember, I set it up two years ago.
There is this fix that needs to write into RW partition, but it only takes one click to install. It shouldn’t be grayed out meaning your system (and Magisk) support it.

I can see that afwallstart script has been written to the /data/adb/ location, but not sure if it's executing

Is this a fix you are talking about found in the AFWall app itself? or outside it?

AFWall+ Settings: Experimental
1) Startup delay (unchecked)
2) Startup directory path for script: /data/adb/post-fs-data.d/
3) Fix startup leak (checked)

This setup makes sure AFWall+ kicks in first, then lets any Wi-Fi connection actually happen after reboot. So you can leave Wi-Fi on before rebooting.
