Unhappy Alternate Jailbreak method -> 5-way controller broken

Hello,

My 5-way controller is broken, and I want to reassign keys in order to keep using my K3w.

The Jailbrake method i've found requires the 5-way keys in order to select the "Update Kindle" option.

Is there an alternate way (auto-update, through terminal, etc) to jailbreak the Kindle? Basically, my "enter" key is broken and I can't do anything useful with the keyboard besides navigating on the main screen ://///

In general, yes.

The K3 has the serial port on the lower cover-light tab connector.
You can find directions here on making a matching tab.

I haven't actually done this on a K3, but what you want to do is use the K3 jail break package and do whatever the scripting does, only 'by hand'.
Usually that just means running the JB script.

Someone familar with the K3 JB would be able to tell you more details.

Another start towards useful information -
Start with the sticky above with "where do I start" in its title -
follow through to the 'original de-bricking' information for the K3.
Although not specifically for your problem, you should find a lot of useful background information.

The (not-so-)quick and easy way would be to run Kubrick.
It'll re-install the firmware on your K3, and in the process include the jailbreak.
