In Nate's case it was an epub reader that was not authorized to the app. Just plugging it in triggers it, apparently. "An ebook reader! Wheee! Let's see what's on it. Hey, bo-osss... Lookee here!" |

I wonder if ADE4 would get all confused if a Kindle is connected

In reality, if you've removed DRM in order to clean up the book's formatting and/or metadata, there's nothing stopping you from changing the identifier in the process. |

In the United States, it comes from the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution. Specifically, "The right of the People to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures."

Very strange coincidence, but while I was sleeping (in the middle of reading this thread) my Kindle for Android app updated. Now it has a setting to disable data usage. It is called "Activity Data" - Automatically use data from this device to provide features through Whispersync for Books. If you disable it warns about possible missing features.
Connection to calling home in DE? If yes, than Amazon is fast in providing an option to opt out. |

The option to disable Whispersync has always been available in the MYK settings page, so it looks like they've now added what is an on-device option rather than just an on/off setting that applies to all the devices registered to one account.

Yes, and I welcome the change. Not really out of privacy concerns, but for decreased data usage while on the go.

I'm trying to make sense of how/when ADE4 sends out the request for info.
Is it when an epub ereader is attached to the PC and ADE4 is on the PC and open? Is it when an epub ereader with ADE registration is connected to the internet via it's own wifi? Is it when an epub ereader is connected to Calibre? Is it when an epub ereader is connected to Calibre and ADE4 has been activated on the PC but not necessarily open at the same time that the ereader is connected to Calibre? Other? |

Open ADE 4 and if it sees a reader it will scan it and report. Even if the reader is not authorized. From the link above: Quote:

This why my e-book reader is unconnected to the Internet. Something that can't hapen, won't happen.

I suppose it would be bad form for me to edit the metadata in my ebooks to include, "Arrgh, matey! This be a pirated file!"
Just to brighten their day over at Adobe. |
