First of the Month Freebies:

The Irish Warrior, by Kris Kennedy

Book Description
As his men are slaughtered around him, legendary Irish warrior Finian O'Melaghlin is held captive by the despised English Lord Rardove. Struggling to break free, Finian finds aid from an unlikely source: the beautiful Senna de Valery, who is also trying to escape Rardove's bloodthirsty grasp. Risking both their lives, Senna releases Finian from his shackles so they can both flee, but their plight has just begun. . .

Seeking safe refuge, Finian and Senna have only each other to depend on for survival. Neither can deny their immediate attraction, but indulging their desires will put them both in grave danger. Finian vows to protect the woman who saved his life, but he soon learns she is a pawn in a much larger battle. For Senna has an unbreakable link to a priceless treasure many centuries old. It is the stuff from which dreams are made and for which men will kill--and not even Finian may be strong enough to save her. . .

His Majesty's Dragon, by Naomi Novik, makes a repeat appearance as a free book, which is a good deal for those who didn't have a Kindle in March of last year.

Book Description
Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors rise to Britain’s defense by taking to the skies . . . not aboard aircraft but atop the mighty backs of fighting dragons.

When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes its precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Capt. Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future–and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature. Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire.

Undercover Lover, by Charlene Teglia , the second of her Take Me, Lover series. As with most Samhain books, this one comes with a content warning.

Book Description
Hardwired for all kinds of action...

When Anne Parker yanks open her front door, she's armed and ready to aim cold fury at her ex. Instead, she finds herself staring up at Pete Crenshaw, a man as disarming as he is dangerous to her battered defenses. A man whose touch sends her I-remember-sex hormones soaring into the red zone.

Those hormones sure have picked a hell of a time to surge, though - with New Year's around the corner and the ex suddenly making noises about worming his way back into her life.

Pete's been biding his time. More accurately, lying in wait for precisely the right moment to take their relationship from friends to lovers. He's aware of Anne's trust issues, but it's time to make a move before she has a chance to do what she does best - overthink it.

Her ex isn't just back to make another play, though. He's after secrets Pete and his partner hide under the cover of their garage business. Pete finds his heart caught between Anne's safety and the secrets he's sworn to keep - unless he can find a way to preserve both...

Warning: This friends-to-lovers tale contains graphic and explicit episodes of mattress dancing, caveman sex, jeopardy (not the game show), Bad Words, Ninjas, ex-husbands and a happy ending.

If I Were You, by L. Ron Hubbard

Book Description
Circus midget Little Tom Little is the king of midgets, loved by crowds and carnival folk alike. Only he doesn't just want to be a bigger circus star, he wants to be just like the circus' tall and imposing leader.

Trouble begins the moment that a set of ancient books containing the secret of switching bodies finds its way into Tom Little's tiny hands. When he magically trades his small frame with that of the circus chief, he finds himself in a giant-sized heap of trouble - his craving for height has landed him smack in the center ring surrounded by forty savage cats!

Bulls Island, by Dorothea Benton Frank, is free in the Kobo, Sony and Kindle stores. The Kindle version doesn't appear to be the same version as at Sony and Kobo, which includes an an excerpt from her upcoming Lowcountry Summer ($12.99 pre-order).

Book Description
A satisfying tale of honor, chance, and star-crossed love infused with Southern wit, grace, and charm from the New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank

After twenty years, Elizabeth "Betts" McGee has finally managed to put her past behind her. She hasn't been home to beautiful South Carolina and untouched Bulls Island since the tragic night that ended her engagement to Charleston's golden boy, J. D. Langley.

And why is that? Really, this is the story of two old Southern families. The Langley family has more money than the Morgan Stanley Bank. And they think they have more class. The Barrett family made their nineteenth-century fortune in a less distinguished manner—corner grocery stores and liquor stores. It's no surprise that when J.D. and Betts fall in love and decide to marry their parents are none too pleased. And when the love affair comes to an end, everyone is ready to place blame.

Now twenty years have gone by and Betts, a top investment bank executive, must leave her comfortable life in New York City to return to the home she thought she'd left behind forever. But spearheading the most important project of her career puts her back in contact with everything she's tried so hard to forget: her estranged sister, her father, J.D., and her past.

Once she's home, can Betts keep the secret that threatens all she holds dear? Or will her fear of the past wreck her future happiness? And what about that crazy gator? All will be revealed on Bulls Island.

Not quite free, but under a buck:

Hide ($0.79 Kindle), by Lisa Gardner, the second volume of her D.D. Warren series, is being deeply discounted in the major ebookstores. All but the B&N listings include the info on the bonus content (but I suspect it contains it, as well). Amazon & Kobo, though, have beat the rest of them, by lowering the 99 cent discount price down to 79 cents.

I do wish the publishers would offer the first book in these series as their specials (or, at least start there, then offer later books at later times). The first book in the series, Alone, is still selling for $6.29 to $7.59 in the same stores).

Book Description
This eBook includes the full text of the novel plus the following bonus content:
• Lisa Gardner on Detective D.D. Warren: Who was the inspiration for D.D. Warren? Find out in this exclusive essay.
• A Sneak Preview from Lisa Gardner’s Live to Tell, on sale July 13, 2010

You have good reason to be afraid. . . .

It was a case that haunts Bobby Dodge to this day—the case that nearly killed him and changed his life forever. Now, in an underground chamber on the grounds of an abandoned Massachusetts mental hospital, the gruesome discovery of six mummified corpses resurrects his worst nightmare: the return of a killer he thought dead and buried. There’s no place to run. . . . Bobby’s only lead is wrapped around a dead woman’s neck. Annabelle Granger has been in hiding for as long as she can remember. Her childhood was a blur of new cities and assumed identities. But what—or who—her family was running from, she never knew. Now a body is unearthed from a grave, wearing a necklace bearing Annabelle’s name, and the danger is too close to escape. This time, she’s not going to run. You know he will find you. . . .

The new threat could be the dead psychopath’s copycat, his protégé—or something far more terrifying. Dodge knows the only way to find him is to solve the mystery of Annabelle Granger, and to do that he must team up with his former lover, partner, and friend D. D. Warren from the Boston P.D. But the trail leads back to a woman from Bobby’s past who may be every bit as dangerous as the new killer—a beautiful survivor-turned-avenger with an eerie link to Annabelle. From its tense opening pages to its shocking climax, Hide is a thriller that delves into our deepest, darkest fears. Where there is no one to trust. Where there is no place left to hide.

If any one uses their B&N wish list on the nook, I found out the hard way that you should keep checking the prices on those books. I had a book I had added to my wish list in the first week or so of having the nook. Apparently, at some time during then and when I checked it again a month or so later, it had the price as free, but it was grayed out saying it was no longer available for that price. I wish B&N would have sent some kind of message to people who had this in their wish list alerting them to the temporary free price because it wasn't one of the Free Friday or voucher books. I had to search for the book again and add it to my wish list again. Just my humble opinion.

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/ebooks...&cds2Pid=34447

Offer is good through 7/4 (prob midnight EST).

It's a nice offer to pick up classics - and yes, I know these titles are all free through google, but hey, at least through this offer, you know it's going to be propertly formatted without going through trial and error, right?

Northfield ($3.99 Kindle), by Johnny D. Boggs, is free to download today at Barnes & Noble.

Book Description
On September 7, 1876, the James-Younger gang attempted to rob the First National Bank of Northfield, Minnesota, with disastrous consequences. In a unique, compelling approach, author Johnny D. Boggs shifts perspectives from one first-person account to another to describe the bloody robbery, as well as the events leading to it and its aftermath.

That may be a little difficult. As others here have noted, B&N uses the credit card # as part of their DRM encryption. You may also be limited due to geopraphical restrictions.
It is worth noting that most, if not all, of their free books are also available free elsewhere. (http://books.google.com , http://www.archive.org. You can search for free ebooks on http://www.inkmesh.com among other sites. there's a virtual tonne of free ebooks available here on MR as well.

Weddings Can Be Murder ($5.39 Kindle), by Christie Craig, is free today at Barnes and Noble. This looks like a light romantic suspense title with a little comedy thrown in for good measure. If you like it, I'd suggest your grab up Divorced, Desperate and Deceived ($2.56 Kindle, B&N), Gotcha! ($2.56 B&N) and Shut Up and Kiss Me ($2.99 Kindle, B&N) while they are on sale, as well. Only Divorced, Desperate and Deceived is part of a series, while the others are stand-alone novels.

Book Description
When her wedding planner is murdered, Katie Ray is forced into close proximity with bad boy PI Carl Hades - and into reconsidering the man with whom she wants to spend the rest of her days.
