Calibre *only sometimes* recognizes device

Yesterday, Calibre noticed my Colour Nook towards the end of the day, but the device was plugged in all day. I did manage to transfer a book or two.

Today, Calibre will not notice my device. I've looked in some of the system preference options and can't find anything helpful.

(My husband has a kindle and has the same problem)

Thanks

Is the problem only the detection in Calibre, or does the OS also not recognize the device? What OS are you running? What version of Calibre are you running?

Both devices can not be plugged in at the same time.

My husband has a different computer, but it has the same behaviour.

My system:
xp SP3
calibre 0.7.49
Colour Nook sw v 1.0.1

My computer recognizes the device, but it took me some tries to get it to do so. I wonder why? Now, Calibre has recognized the device also.

I will have to do some more troubleshooting and report back.

Thanks for your quick replies.

Make sure you always eject the device before disconnecting it from your computer.
