SF Editor David G. Hartwell Dies

Locus has announced that the great editor David G. Hartwell has died from massive brain trauma from a fall.

I knew David myself, having met and talked extensively with him at a number of conventions. He was a kind and courteous gentleman with a vast knowledge of his field. He will be missed.

I first became aware of him in the 70s as an (excellent) editor. Despite its brief run, I still miss his Cosmos magazine.

One of my favorite editors. I've recently been slowly re-reading his history of horror anthology The Dark Descent.
