Compacting the Database?
Just wondering if, after deleting my entire calibre library, do I need to compact the database in some way? I noticed that any new books I entered began with the next sequential number right before I started deleting.
So, I had, say... 139 books, deleted 139 books, re-entered books in a completely different order - but book numbering began at #140. While I realize this does not affect calibre per se, I'm just wondering if I missed something. Edit: I highlighted books and pressed the Del key, I did not use the toolbar trashcan icon. I did still get the Are You Sure dialog though. |

That's deliberate. id numbers are never reused. If yo want to force them to be re-used ( abad idea) you can always delete the metadata.db file.

No, that was not my intent. I just thought that I had done something equivalent to the MS Access error of old. (Deleting records, but never compacting the database. So the database file size increased unnecessarily, used unique IDs inefficiently, etc.)
