Ouch! I have everything connected to me by chains. I lost/had stolen my wallet once in Bangkok 30 years ago, and from that day, put a thin chain on my wallet to my belt. Not one of those big biker chain wallet things... just enough to make a pickpocket try a different target. When I started carrying a mobile phone, I did roughly the same, but with a coiled wire clipped to my shirt pocket. This also keeps the phone from dropping into the toilet, which as I understand, isn't so good for phones. Almost most 10pm and time for a small glass of rum! Stitchawl |

Thank you for nice words.
I didn't even know about phone insurance. Never seriously thought about being stolen. I would have to be less naive from now on. What really hurts is that it's birthday gift from dad. I haven't gathered enough courage to tell him yet. I hope someone would turn on the phone and see the lock screen which has my number and offer a price for me to get it back. If the worst comes to the worst... I'm so glad I don't keep any sensitive photos in the phone I'm thinking about saving up to buy another one just like it - I hate to lose something special. I'm exhausted now but can't go to sleep. So... Red bull. @ Stitchawl: I'll try to find the right ingredients next time I go shopping. Thanks for the recipe! |

When I go out, I always keep my handbag close to my body and I never put my phone in one of my pockets. I keep it in my bag, in a compartment inside. It makes me angry that you have to take such measures to make sure no-one steals from you. When my parents were young, everyone would just leave their car unlocked in a parking space. I'm having a diet coke right now, and I'm dying of curiosity! My BF's 'boss', who is also a good friend, just had a baby! But I still don't know if it's a boy or a girl! She probably sent a message to BF and his colleagues, but it's so busy right now that he probably doesn't have time to tell me. So I have to wait another 3 hours! |

[Yokel 2] Oh yes? A boy or a girl? [Yokel 1] I don't know yet, it doesn't say. [Yokel 2] Well, when are you going to find out whether you're an Aunt or an Uncle? My cup of iced water is empty. Time for Coke Zero #2! |

I have a nice bag I use when I travel. It has wires laced into the shoulder strap so it is tough to cut off, wire laced through the entire bag area so it is difficult to slice open, hooks for the pulls so that it is difficult to open a zipper. It is nice to know that there is some protection for my stuff. I have been known to use it when I go into the city for any reason. It might not be fashionable but it does help protect my stuff.

I don't know what ProfCrash has, but I bought a couple of these (haven't used them yet though!): http://www.ebags.com/brand/pacsafe
And I see Amazon has some of them for a lower price - so check there before you buy! Last edited by badgoodDeb; 02-06-2013 at 04:24 PM. |

Sorry to hear about your gift/phone being stolen, anh.
I don't go to extreme measures, but I got some tips on proper pocket placement in the early 70s, when I was a security escort on cash collections in the South Bronx. I understand it has calmed down quite a bit, but the 41st Police Precinct of the New York Police Dept. (setting for the movie Fort Apache the Bronx) was in my territory. I keep my wallet, keys, etc., in front pockets. My phone is in my shirt pocket, under a buttoned flap. It's unfortunate people have to think about this sort of thing. I believe I'll have that second mug of tea, now. |

Put your arms around me
Like a circle `round the sun You know I'll love you baby When my easy ridin's done You don't believe I love you Look at the fool I've been You don't believe I'm sinkin' Look at he hole I'm In Stealin' stealin' Prefty mama don't you tell on me I'm stealin' back to my Same old used to be ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YWw4sggFn8 ) Good morning, all! This day... back in 1964... The Beatles landed in New York. The rest was history... "Yorkshire" tea, thanks to Taylors of Harrogate, is warming my belly, spicy Thai green curry is filling it, and it looks as if today is going to be a very nice day! Quote:
One of my favorite items is their portable 'safe.' We often find ourselves staying in guest houses that don't have 'real' security safe deposit boxes and have to leave valuables at the front desk. By putting them into the Pacsafe 'Safe' and locking that, we can feel secure knowing that our passports, extra cash, small valuables, etc., will all be absolutely untouched even by guest house staff when we give it to them to hold while we go out exploring for the day, or when we have to leave wallets and cash on dive boats while we're under water. The crews of some of these day boats in Third World Countries are not always the most honest. Their big trick is to remove just one small item that would normally be overlooked. In these countries, even a 25 cent coin means one more meal... No need to steal $100 and get caught, when no one notices a missing dollar.
